We were very late in submitting for housing and just completed our application 4/10/07. The number we received was somewhere around 6,100. I talked to housing and they said that most likely he will still be able to get a dorm on campus but I don't know whether to believe them or not. I'm not even sure I won't him to go if he can't get on-campus housing as I think it is so important to get connected with others in the dorm environment. Any insight on what his changes are for getting a dorm?????

There will definately be advice from FSU students and parents who frequent this board. Hang in there. I believe that 3 dorms are opening or reopening for fall, so you may be OK. They will give you specific info

There are three private dorms...practically on campus that are wonderful options for your child. All my friends kids lived in these instead of the on campus dorms. Check these out:

Thank you so much for this information. I have been looking at some apartment complexes near campus and I'm note sure if the private dorms would be a better option. I am thinking perhaps the private dorms have more Freshman in them vs. the apartment complexes....do you know if this is true or not? I am just trying to get him in an atmosphere as close to a dorm as possible with the majority being Freshman.

Everyone that I know that lives in southgate is/was a Freshman. It is very sociable and very much the "total dorm experience" with the added bonus of the rooms being doubles, each with their own bathroom!

For a freshman, living on campus in a residence hall is probably the best bet. Keep trying with FSU Housing. Openings occur unexpectedly.

If not on campus, then a private residence hall is better than an apartment to become connected to all the activities.

Good luck!
