Hi
My son will be a freshman at UMD this fall , admitted to ILS, school of engineering, and planning to pursue a BioE major. He also wants to add on another major or minor. Is there anyone here who has a sophomore or Junior in ILS with BioE major that he could talk to? We did not go to college here and are having difficulty navigating the whole process.
Thanks!
What is he looking to add on for second major or minor? In general, engineering students don’t have a lot of freedom in their schedules (since there are so many required classes, and also because classes are very demanding), so the most common minors tend to be in a related field such as math or physics since there is some overlap in class requirements…
Here is the four year plan for just the bioengineering courses (one page is list, second page is semester by semester plan to get a sense of workload each semester by credit) https://eng.umd.edu/sites/clark.umd.edu/files/resource_documents/bioe-4yrandcurrl-2017-2018-1_2.pdf
And here is where to find the course list for ILS that needs to be integrated into the engineering course plan https://www.ils.umd.edu/courses
Thanks! Most probably his minor will be Computer science or anything related to that.
Here’s the course info for CompSci minor, but not sure how it works now that CompSci is limited enrollment…May involve a little more than it used to in order to be allowed to enroll in the minor…

Thanks! So these things should be sorted out in June when he starts registering for courses for Freshman year? How does it work here? Do you select your courses for all 4 years when you start or do it year by year?
Never mind! I now understand that you enroll semester by semester!
