HELP! Freshman deferring after acceptance.

Hey there. I was accepted to UCSB and sent in my SIR, believing I would be going there. But due to some severe issues that arose, I will have to stay close to my home and might not be able to go to SB for the first year. Is there any way I can defer the first year of school at Santa Barbara, go to a CC, and then return to UCSB as a sophomore?

My friend was the first to be allowed a deferral at UCD and it was only because she’s continuing her education on a 5th year of high school in Bolivia. It’s apparently extremely hard to get a deferral from a UC. You have to call the admissions office and discuss your situation with them, but you might have to go to a CC for a couple of years then transfer in. If that’s the case then a lot of UCs have TAG agreements including UCD, UCSD, and UCSB. I hope you get one! Good luck!

Call admissions, but I doubt you can do this. The UC schools don’t allow deferrals except in rare circumstances; you should inquire to see if the situation you face allows this.

Hey Mikemac, do you mind explaining how you quote people like you did right now? It would be helpful and much appreciated.

To quote you type [ and then the word quote and then ]

At the end of what you’re quoting you type [ and / and the word quote and then ]

To the OP, here is a link from UCSB saying pretty much what you’ve been told: [UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/faq.asp?subsection=27)
