Help! freshman schedule for fall 2008

I was bummed out to find that Professor Gerald Wilson retired, and now I won't have the opportunity to take his class on ethnomusicology.
Well anyways, how is my schedule? Will I be able to survive my first quarter at ucla? haha thanks for the help.

hist 9E with woods
math 32a (with schul or duke? either one i guess)
chem 14 a with lavelle
or
hist 9E with woods
math 32a
ls1 with pires

the thing is, the hist and ls1 finals are on the same day, though at different times.

youll get a study guide for 9E either a week in advance or 1.5-2 weeks in advance.

i took two finals same day during my first quarter - very reasonable.

o and your sched looks fine if not typical.

why are you taking 14a if youre doing 32A?

well since my major is biology (lol... i might switch majors if i'm bored of it), i thought i should get down 2 of the requirements for my major during my first quarter. is 14a with 32a not a good idea?

and thanks for the quick reply!

No, it's a bad idea. If you're doing 32A, you might as well do the 20 series for chemistry. You would take Math 3C if you're doing the biology major. What other majors are you interested in that are in math/science related?

Hmm, maybe biotechnology or mathematics... I was even thinking about forensics lol but I think that's a long shot for me
So biology majors would go for 3c? Thanks for letting me know [:

We have forensics?

i don't think so, but it's only a fantasy
so then would ls1 with math 32a be a better pair? or should 32a be replaced with 3c?
oh and i thought of taking 32a since i read in a thread that scoring a 5 on bc calc allows you to skip 31a and 31b

If you're doing math, you have to take the 30 series for math. Math department also doesn't allow Chem 14A as an elective pre-req.

so you'd advise me to take chem14a with math 3c if i'm majoring in biology?

If you plan to stay in bio or a life science, then yes.

From what I've gathered from orientation as a bio major you can either do the 3 or 30 series for math. I also got a 5 on the calc BC test which gets you out of 3a and 3b or 31a and 31b. Yes the 3 series is for life science majors but either will fulfill the requirements. Do the one that you think you will like better. 3c is more like stats and probability and 32a is multi variable calculus.

3C is basically full lol. if youre good at math, just take 32A....

as it stands, there are only 45 spots left for math 3C for fall. plus the only times are at 8 in the freaking morning 3 times a week plus discussion (also at 8).

i was in the same spot as you. i'm great at math so I just decided to take 32A because it's more interesting (though harder) and is at 2 PM instead of 8...

and please take chem 14. dont slack on chem as a ls major...youre gonna have to take one class every quarter for two years.

dont take LS1. the MCDB department head warned us that it's way too difficult for incoming freshman.

what i've heard:
do LS2 and LS3 before LS1, easier that way...
even though that means you cant start off your freshman year with life sciences...
