Help Getting In..

I love GW and I am most likely going to apply ED next year-but my chances of getting in are weak because of my average/low-ish gpa and act. i have really strong extracurricular's and a lot of awards/honors-but i don't think it can make up for my really really bad sophomore year(family problems/deaths). This year my gpa is about a 4.79(uw) and i hope i can get a 5.0 my senior year first semester.

What college/school in the university is the least competitive to get accepted into ed/ what major has the least amount of people trying to apply to it? I really want to go here so I'm going to try everything I can to get it.

Thanks, i really appreciate the help!

What GPA scale do you use? We cannot tell how good/bad 4.79 is without one.

The Columbian College is by far the easiest one for admissions, but I would recommend against selecting a major that you have no interest in. You may have to take classes that will not transfer for what you really want to major in, making you stay for a fifth year. I doubt your parents want to spend an extra $65,000.

WOW, please tell me you are joking! If you mean a 4.79 out of 4 then U r insane...Im afraid u may not get in, what the heck dude, r u kidding me. You know a 4.79 is good, why the hell are u asking us??? lol

Yea, i said a 4.7/5 junior year and hopfuly a 5/5 senior year
but freshmen year was maybe a 3.9-4.0/5 and same with sophmore year
so average gpa for high school of a 4.3/5

Early decision has about a 65% acceptance rate (look at The Hatchet's website; I think they have that information there), so you should be fine. I got in ED2 with a much lower gpa and probably not as good ECs. And to who ever said Colombian's the easiest to get into: it's not. I posted a link to GW's common data set on a different thread here, Eliott is actually easier to get into, while think Colombian is the second hardest school.

Acceptance rates do not tell the whole story. Pepperdine has a much lower acceptance rate than the University of Chicago, which is a significantly better school. Chicago's SAT and class rank are much higher than those of Pepperdine. So you cannot say that Columbian is harder to get into than Elliot based only on acceptance rates; you would need to find the SAT and average class rank to determine which one is harder to get into.

I think SAT and class rank info might say something about the "quality" of students who do get in, but when it comes down to percentages it's a perfectly fine conclusion to say that since a smaller percentage of people are accepted into one college than another, your chances of admission are smaller. And so, statistically speaking, it is more difficult to get accepted to the school. As for SAT scores and class rank for individual schools, I would be very interested to see those, but so far I haven't been able to find any information of that sort. Out of curiosity, are you an Elliot admit? :)

No, I am in the business school.

Someone mentioned in another thread that Elliott had higher SAT scores, but I do not know where that information is coming from.

Fantosme, I plan to apply to the business school. Can you tell me a little bid about it and your stats when u got in and when? Also, did u transfer??? Thank you!

In a report to the faculty senate in April, Dean Brown of the Elliot school stated that "The undergraduate student body’s [of the Elliot School] SAT scores are approximately 40 points higher than the University average. That is information found on the web site. So yes, The Elliot school has the highest SAT scores, but the CAS has a lower admit rate. Statistics can be misleading, so the lesson should be to apply to the school that matches your interests and academic plans and don't try to game the system.
