Help getting started on essays

it is about time to start writing already! I can't seem to begin, and I was wonder if you sage CCers could clue me in a bit.

now, I really like reading good literature, and I like analyzing good literature, so I know I can write good essays. but I am not good literature. so rather than starting from the computer, which is how I approach essays on literature, I turned to pen and notebook and just started writing stuff. I ended up just writing mini-essays about things I think are interesting. but I am not the Mafia or Wikipedia either. so...

how can I get started on some real essay-writing? I need to make myself at least a supporting character, right? I know yall don't know all of my details, but maybe you can share how you got started, or what your friends did. how did you choose a topic and stick with it? did you start with an outline? got anything else that might help? I am sure people besides me can use tips too.

thank you very much for anything you have to contribute!

hmmmm I'll bump this. I need some suggestions from somewhere, and what better place than CC?

this is the last bump, I promise. really though, hasn't one of you got some insights?

i think you're on the right track just free writing. Try to focus it on specific traits about yourself, like your motivation, sense of humor, responsibility, etc. Once you figure that out, you could write about one time that you showed that characteristic. Just write it like a suspenseful story. In the end, the admissions officers should know more about who you are as a person. Try to avoid the "jock" essay and make sure you focus it to one or two things about yourself.
