Hello…

I am still waiting for other school’ decisions.

However, I need your advice…:)…because I have to send a deposit

until next week…:(

I got admitted U.VA and UM-Ann arbor…

However, I cannot decide which school do I have to send a deposit…:(

I am a sophomore transfer. (& an international student)

U.VA-CAS (I am planning to major in Economics.)

UMAA- LSA (I am planning to major in Economics.)

My questions are:…

Which school has better curriculum?..(or getting a better grades…maybe:))

I have to get excellent grades(over 3.7) because I am planning to

go to “law school”

Which school has great student’s body?

concerning about weather or surroundings…
(which school is a better place to live for a (international)student?
→ I like warm weather and like to live in neighborhood which is close
to the city.)

the other things…(You give some information…anything you wanna…)

Please give me some advice…:)

okay i mean you need to do some research because these schools are reallly different! UM is in MICHIGAN. It's cold there!! Really cold. But I've heard great things about Ann Arbor. UVA is in the South. It's beautiful. But lots of instaters, so it's got a southern feel. None of this is good or bad, but they are things to think about. And how do you feel about size? I don't know much about either... but just seeing the post i feel like it's somewhat apples and oranges here...

I live in Virginia, and I got accepted as a transfer student to UVA too (Ill probably be going). I can tell you a lot about UVA, but I can't tell you anything about UMAA.

From my understanding, Economics is VERY strong at UVA. Its not quite as well known as their political science major program, but its up there. On a kind of related note, their school of Business (McIntire?) is a great program. I think it is ranked the second best program in public schools (behind Penn State). As far as the city, Charlottesville is voted the best place to live in America. It is two hours+ from D.C, but the city itself is kind of secluded. The weather is hot/warm in the summer, and pretty cold in the winter. In my opinion, UVA has one of the better student bodies at top schools. In general they are pretty wealthy, preppy, and were voted as most fit campus or something. It has a relaxed feel to it, and there is a fair share of partying. Oh, there are only about 20,000 students all together (thats more than half of UMAA). As far as grading, I think it's not that bad at all. I even heard that it was a bit grade inflationary. There law school is top 14, and has a reputation for being more relaxed. They also have the highest placement of students from public universities to elite graduate programs.

Since I dont know anything about UMAA, I can't tell you which one to chose. But for me UVa would be a no brainer.

For your first question I can't provide much specific insight, except to mention that both have GERs and will probably be of a similar standard of academic rigor. I have quite a few friends at UVA and although several of them are startlingly brilliant at one or two subjects, they still feel challenged and have to work hard for a B, and really push themselves for an A, but never in a manner which causes them an excessive amount of stress.

I can't speak much for U-Michigan Ann Arbor, but UVA has a great student body. It is extremely spirited, and in my opinion strikes a good balance between academics and social life. Friends who are really introverted, and friends who are extroverted have all found a niche. It is a really southern school, though, with a lot of old traditions (at big football games girls wear sundresses and pearls, guys wear suits) but nothing too over-bearing in my opinion. Both schools are fairly large, and are public colleges, so in that respect they are pretty similar.

For weather and surroundings I can again only speak mainly for UVA, which is located in Charlottesville, and is a really nice city which is accessible easily from campus. It is full of coffee shops and restaurants, etc, and has lots of apartments and houses if you choose to live off-campus. The weather is typically southern - falls are lovely, winters are moderately cold with snow periodically, and then springs are cool, and summers can get quite hot and humid, although by the time summer reach its peak in VA around July/August you will of course be away on summer vacation.

Apart from that, I would say that UVA in my experience is a great school, and of course I know more about it (VA resident) than UM-Ann Arbor, but both have equally good reputations and it depends a lot on what suits you best.

Thanks..:)

Anybody?..I need more advice..:)

Reputation. UMich's Economics program is better than UVA.

Size. The student body in UMich is extra large and UVA is medium.

Local atmosphere. UMich is in the big city; UVA is in a small town.

So it's up to you now.

Ann Arbor is "the big city"?

I guess, if you call a suburb a city...
