HELP HELP A 12th GRADE STUDENT FOR A DEGREE IN AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

Hello friends, I am a 12 th standard student from DPS Guwahati. I was thinking about doing my B.E. in Aerospace Engineering(with Aeronautics) from USA (for the fall of 2010)as there are hardly any good universities back in India with Aerospace Engineering. Can anyone help me with finding a good university with aerospace engineering in US with financial aid and scholarships for international student. I hope to give SAT in october 2009.

As far as my profile is concerned, its mentioned below:-

ACADEMICS

8th standard - 84%
9th Standard - 81 %
10th standard - 88%
11th standard - 73 %

And the main one:- WON THE 2nd PRIZE IN NASA SPACE SETTLEMENT CONTEST 2009 and also designed an aeroplane which was appreciated by the boeing people in INTERNATIONAL SPACE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE 2009

Hope someone out here can help me in choosing the universities to apply for (the one's in which I can really get admission with scholarhip) my budget is around $20,000 (including tution, boarding etc)....

CAN ANYONE OUT HERE HELP

hey
I am currently studying aerospace from Embry Riddle aeronautical University . I think it will be a good option for you

I just checked for embry riddle and everywhere they had negative review about it…

they said that they take anyone with money…so hope they donot have any kind of scholarships out for Indians and also the drop out rate of embry riddle is very high…

so I am thinking for other universities right now and am keeping embry riddle as the last option…

Check Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I don’t know anything about it, except that it’s good in engineering of all sorts and that there’s a Romanian student who studies aerospace engineering. Romanian students almost always require financial aid to study in USA, so I assume RPI offers fin aid for internationals.

Purdue - Great aerospace engineering program, but i don’t think they offer financial aid to international students.

MIT - Arguably the best engineering institution in the world. They also offer financial aid to internationals.

Stanford
Cornell
Caltech

Georgia Tech - No financial aid for internationals

These are just a few excellent schools in aerospace engineering.

Yeah I know a few people who have financial problems and are international students at Purdue from India. They more or less complain that its horrible for them since they don’t get aid or are allowed to have a job for over a certain amount of hours if they work on campus. If finances doesn’t matter then Purdue would be a great school for AASE. A new building and all and a great reputation internationally. However, attending Purdue is around $40k a year which would exceed your $20k since I don’t think you can get aid.

Check out - Cal Poly SLO , Universities in Minnesota and Texas … They offer you instate tuition after the first year if you get a GPA of 3.0 …

Texas A&M is another good university for Aerospace

Hope this help you .

You can search for accredited B.S.E. programs in Aerospace Engineering at the ABET website. Here is a link:

http://www.abet.org/schoolareaeac.asp

You should read the information about financial aid for international students at the Financial Aid Forum. There is a link to that forum on the left-hand side of this screen. The International Financial Aid Thread is at the top of that forum.

Wishing you all the best.

how much is the percentage of scholarship (with respect to the tution and boarding fees) can the universities give to the international students

Reetam … i still recommend Texas A&M … .I have a cousin who got his undergraduate degree for Mech Eng . … The scholarship they provide is quite good and within your 20,000 Range and They have an excellent aerospace program.

They give scholarships based on SAT’s and Give u instate Tuition fee once u get a GPA above 3.0 in the first year ( approx 9,000 $) …

I recommend - Texas A&M , UIUC , Ga Tech , Cal Poly - SLO

all these are some very good and a few of them are excellent for Undergrad and their overall international package is not as expensive as the other universities .

Best of luck.

WHAT I AM SEARCHING IS FOR A COLLEGE WHOSE TOTAL FEES IS ABOUT $40,000 and whose fees can come down to $20,000 after the scholarship

Do the university base their selections only on academics or something more

there is merit based and need-based scholarship … but then again it depends upon ur family income …

getting a 20K scholarship will be difficult … unless u have an amazing SAT score … and frankly speaking ur grades are not too great … (please don’t take it negatively … As i am speaking from experience … i too am from DPS … … and our school head boy … with amzing grades … average was around 91% , got a full ride from Georgia Tech … merit based … and he was just fro m a middle class family … )

Trust me … getting full or a 20K scholarship for universities such as Stanford, MIT, Ivies … qould be difficult .

So if I were you i wud apply to :-

1)Case western
2)Georgia Tech
3)Stanford ( If u can afford it , go here , coz i think you will get in … without scholarship)
4)UT-Austin (amazing in aerospace, and as i mentioned above … the second year thing)
5)Embry riddle (they may take people with money , but keeping your grades in mind you may end up getting an amzing scholarship , and I dont think Embry Riddle’s selectivity is going to affect the prestige of your degree . If you are interested in getting a good degree and if you work hard … Embry is the way to go … It all depends on the Student… And Embry has some amazing facilities and can get you a good job- make a lot of connections)
6)Texas A&M

Best of Luck

if u get into MIT, money will not be a problem
u ll get the money if the amount they deem worthy for your financial status…no matter how bright u may be, they will not pay you more than what they feel u need.
getting in though, i feel is the hard part for most students - turning down MIT because of fin aid (as an intl student) is something i have never heard of.

I am probably thinking of getting around 91 % in 12 th standard…now were do I stand…though my previous academic record looks odd…I always got A’s in most the subjects…3 A1 and 2 A2’s in 10th standard…

So what are my chances right now…

haha i laughed at your last statement.

sorry, but why arent u thinking of getting over 91?

i m just kidding. ur chances wont deter all that much with ur board exam scores. especially since most of the kids who apply have 90+ scores…many with 95+. I know a dude who got the second highest ISC score in India and didnt make it into many places.
u have to realise its more than scores. its VITAL that you realise that.

:| … 91 is supposed to be amazing …

Apply to Imperial College London … UK … It is Britains MIT … not as expensive as the US universities … but it is an amazing university … after the Ivies and the best for engineering in the world . Check out universities in the Uk … they are CBSE board exam oriented .

as far as te Us universities are concerned :-
1)UT - Austin
2)Case Western
3)Georgia Tech
4)Drexel University
5)USC

U may end up getting even full or a scholarship more than what you want . these universities have an amazing reputation in the US for Aerospace .

Best of Luck

i know it is a good score.
i was merely remarking on the casual manner with which she said ‘i m thinking of getting a 91’.
if the phrasing still doesnt seem funny to you, it is like saying ‘oh i m probably thinking of getting those shoes’

i know what she meant, i was just being immature and laughing at the way she said it.
just so everyone is clear.

u hav good chances nonetheless. you also have to realise that MIT will compare you with ur peers (other applicants from yours school) so how do u measure up against them?

wat is more vital in context to your thinking???

can u explain it in a broader term

this is for sidfromaus

first of all i m a boy and not a girl…so stop using she…

and only 3 students form our school are giving SAT out of which only 2 of us are thinking to apply for mit of which i have better ec’s but the other guy has 2-3% more marks than me…

now the chances
