HELP HELP Columbia hopeful!!!!!!! Chance Me!!!!!!

To Nicole5178, I actually donated the money to very well known agencies, who doesn’t know Operation Smile? Whitney Young is very well known as well throughout the northeast. To HockeyIsAhmazing, thank you so much for that program, I think if they look at the amount of money i donated, it will look like i have previously built business and marketing skills. Wait, Nicole5178, it depends if I am CATHOLIC? Well, you could probably tell from my app I am muslim, but wow i never new colleges would have criteria based on religion. Wow, wake up call. Do you think I have a shot at LEAD, HockeyIsAhmazing? It seems really really competitive!!! Only 30 kids are accepted from the whole nation!

To nicole5178 again…do you really think Brown University is a low reach for me? I did go there for two summers, but I found the campus very dull, and a horrible place to spend 4 school years in. The mall is nice, restaurants are nice ( Caprice is nothing short of amazing), and they were always reconstructing, trying to improve the campus…but besides that, do you really think it will be a low reach? I am second guessing myself to even apply there because NYU has an amazing program. Brown comes a little short on business. Sorry to call you out so much, it is just interesting to know why you think that. Thanks so much Nicole5178!

Oh my, I’ve been “called out.”

To respond, Notre Dame and BC are Catholic schools, meaning an OVERWHELMINGLY large majority of students are Catholic. I’m sure you can get in if you are not Catholic, but it’s a factor.

And about the donations. They’re just donations of money–you didn’t learn from it, there was no experience. You wrote something on a piece of paper. That’s not a good “extracirricular.” I’m not saying it wasn’t a good thing to do, or the organizations aren’t important; it’s just that you didn’t donate your time, so maybe it doesn’t have a place on college apps.

Brown is a slight reach because you’ve already done 2 summers there, but it’s an ivy, and therefore, terribly fickle in admissions. Your scores probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pool, but Brown doesn’t usually attract business majors, so it kind of evens out. So yes, low reach.

You don’t seem to like Brown that much… I mean, I’m guessing you would have to answer the “Why Brown?” question on the application, so what would you say? Why do you still want to apply to Brown if you think it’d be a “horrible place to spend 4 years in”?

ohhh oops, I realized that i read “low reach” as low match, my fault haha, oh but i did do a countless number of fundraisers to raise the money, I just didn’t donate it out of my pocket, like maybe over twenty five ones for SIHC. Well thank you so much Nicole 5178, and all of the others that helped me out! Hopefully I can get into NYU Stern, my first choice!

Sorry, when you said “donate” I assume you pulled it out of your pocket. My mistake. And I think you definitely will get into NYU with good essays, so best of luck to you. Also thanks for chancing me–I just realized.

I don’t know too much about the application process (I’ll ask my boyfriend and get back to you on that) so I don’t know how they choose those 30 participants. I remember him mentioning that he was the only muslim there (he tends to exaggerate, however) and that the coordinators were hoping for more diversity in the future. You said that you were from pakistan so I’m guessing that your muslim, too. Therefore, you may have a good chance. If I were you, I’d give it a shot. You have nothing to lose… except maybe an application fee and some time?

yeah haha, if I were that rich to just donate, then I probably might have lived off of my father’s fortune! Thanks for the valuable info Nicole5178, it means a lot. And yes i am definitely going to apply for that program, and yes I am muslim ( currently reading satanic verses by salman kushdie) and I will definitely apply. Wish me luck, thanks HockeyisAhmazing!
