Help help engineering vs undeclared for UC's

Hi, I had a question about applying as an engineering major to UC schools, specifically UCI, UCSD, UCLA, and UCSB. I am very confused of what to do - whether I should apply as undeclared, engineering, or engineering-undeclared. I was surfing through the web, and many people posted threads about how they were rejected from UCI because they chose engineering as their major... But if I do in fact choose undeclared, it will be much harder for me to transfer into the engineering program later into the years. So the question i'm asking is, should I apply as an engineering major and risk it (though my stats are not that high 4.1 uc gpa around 1800 sat) or just apply as an undeclared and risk not getting into the engineering program?

same question i have… i actually heard of a guy who got accepted into ucla only because, he believes, he wrote engineering

he got accepted to ucla based on his major?

well he said that it helped him
