I'm transferring after this year from community college to either NYU, Boston University or Sarah Lawrence. (HOPEFULLY!)

What I'm wondering is...I'm kind of confused by the application process. There is really no information on Boston or NYU's website about transfer applicants who will be receiving their associates. Boston said they look for students who take a variety of classes and I'm just concerned that I'll be applying before I finish any of my languages or sciences (since they didn't fit into my schedule this past year.) I just need someone to help me out and tell me what I need so I can be accepted to these schools.

I have a 3.8 GPA
I'm involved in clubs
I work two jobs
I'm bilingual
I can get letters of rec from at least one professor but I think I'm going to ask for more. (Also--am I allowed to send letters of rec at a later date. This past year I've only had one professor I got to know very well to write one.)
I've made Dean's List

Anyway as you can see, I'm kind of freaking out. Any help is appreciated!

Colleges will look at your planned schedule for spring when you apply and take that into consideration. You are expected to notify them if there is a change (eg. drop a class).

Most colleges require 2 LORs from profs/TAs who have instructed you in a class. They need to be submitted by the application deadline. Most schools have transfer deadlines around March, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting a LOR from an instructor that you have for a course next fall.

I know you didn’t ask, but I hope you know that NYU is known to give relatively poor need based FA, both to fr and transfer applicants (I’m not familiar with BU or SL).

Thanks for responding. I can definitely find two professors to write letters for me. Do you know if they send them in or if I do? (random, I know) also, I volunteer with autistic kids do you think getting a letter from the director would help?

I was actually really worried about FA so I’m glad you said something about that. I am going to try and get some scholarships from my Phi Theta Kappa but if that doesn’t work then I might just have to rely on a lot of loans. I think BU is much better about aid. But my parents probably make too much money so I’ll end up getting nothing anyway.

It varies, you can give the prof the forms and an addressed, stamped envelope, or just give them the forms, they put everything in a sealed envelope and give it back to you to send. Often the prof will sign over the seal of the envelope to assure it’s validity.

You can have the director send a supplemental LOR. Generally, one supplemental is fine, particularly if it address a different aspect of you than the ones from your profs.
