Help! High school student!

I am a Sophomore in High School with a predicament. First off let me list the classes I am currently enrolled in and the grades I currently have. ( keep in mind, we are only 1 1/2 months into the school year)

W history - A
PE - A
Spanish 2 - F
English 10H - A
Alg 2 - B
Chemistry - B

Now, my problem revolves around my Spanish 2 class. For Spanish 1, I had a very lenient teacher, who didn't really teach well/much and basically passed everyone with an A. Now the sad thing about this is that, this has affected me in Spanish 2. As you saw I have an F, and mainly because tests are 50% of our grade and I have done very poorly on them. As of right now, I cannot drop out of Spanish 2 & retake Spanish 1 because it is too late in the school year. I am currently trying to bring my grade up to at least a "C" or higher, and I will be getting a tutor soon.

My question is, since colleges look at our grades for Sophomore year, and let's say I do get a D/F in my Spanish class, will it drastically affect my chances into getting into a good college? Also, our school does not provide summer school for foreign language, and I will have to retake the class next year if I get an "F". (a "D" will still provide me credits, but is strongly encouraged to retake). I have been stressing out a lot over my grade in Spanish, because it is the first "F" I have ever seen, & I feel like I won't go to a great college. I am trying my best to not have this "F", but I would like to know what my chances are if I do.
Also, if you have any websites that can also help me in Spanish that would help a TON!

Thank you!

It drastically affects your gpa and therefore can affect your chances. You can’t really change a grade and let’s face it… it was your fault for not trying hard enough. But it’s really never too late! You can still bring up your gpa and make up for your bad spanish grade.

First, don’t panic. Motivate yourself. Try to review the spanish textbook, ask the teacher to help tutor you during lunch time or after school, and finally get a tutor (which you’ve already stated). Use quizlet and memorize vocabulary. Grammar shouldn’t be that bad for the first two years of Spanish.

I suggest that you take honors and APs. I have no idea if your sophomore course load is full of general courses. Colleges care about course rigor. So if you’re just taking general level classes and you get a F in a spanish class that isn’t an honors class… that would look bad.

Anyway, work hard and good luck. Motivate yourself and don’t let this happen again. Just because a class “seems” easy doesn’t mean you should slack off.

Of course a D/F will affect your chances of getting into ANY college. I suggest you get that grade up. Talk to the teacher and get extra help.

I agree with the above. However, My son had a real difficult time in Spanish 2 last year. It was actually the most stressful class for him. Test grades were 80% of his grade So you can imagine how stressful it was. I made all the vocabularies on Quizlet so he can study on his phone or iPad. It really helped him on the vocab tests. He went to his teacher after school for extra help. He ended up with an A in the class. It’s only September you still have three more months and the final exam to bring up your grade. Don’t get discouraged and keep working hard. I would have a talk with the Spanish teacher and explain to her your situation. Teachers like to see students who work hard. Don’t think about college too much right now it will stress you out. Concentrate on bringing up your grades and maybe next year take some AP classes. Colleges do like to see students take vigorous courses.
