I just decided maybe a week ago that I'd go to UT over some of my other options. I'm a girl in the engineering honors program, and I plan to get a BS in civil engineering and focus on environmental engineering.

A few issues:
1. This late in the game, the best housing options are probably taken. I'd love to room in San Jac, but I only paid my $50 a few nights ago... No way, right?
2. The honors housing options isn't showing up on my "Update Housing Choices" page. Should I be concerned? How do I file for honors housing?
3. What are good options with either super clean bathrooms or private/shared bathrooms, other than San Jac and honors? (I'm assuming honors housing has decent bathrooms.)
4. Everyone has a roommate already. I've tried UT's online thing, but truthfully it doesn't seem to be particularly helpful. Any other good sources? Facebook, maybe?
5. Orientation. Ugh. Having just decided to attend, I'm only just now looking at orientation. The only dates still available are both in early July, and I'll be out of town. Do I need to be present for the entire orientation thing or can I just drive up to Austin once I get back in tonw to catch the tail end of orientation?
6. Any way I can skip orientation and register online even though I'll be a freshman? Doesn't look like it from what I've read, but I'm hoping for a loophole.
7. How awful will my schedule be for going to orientation that late/potentially at the autumn orientation?

Honors housing has community bathrooms. From what I’ve heard the dorms aren’t all that great. If you want nice, Duren and San Jac are probably your best bets, assuming you can get into them.

I’d call up UT and explain your situation to see if they can fit you in an earlier orientation, I know a few friends that found some success doing that.

no way, to have a decent to OK chance at san jac, you have to sign up before january. the only dorm that would have openings is Jester but even then UT might have to squeeze you in.

there’s a “Sign Up For Honors Residential Living” option in your main housing status check page

honors housing indeed does have relatively better facilities and community bathrooms usually get cleaned once a day for all or most dorms

go ahead and set up a profile on the roommate finder. you might have someone look you up. you can also look for people you know from your school or from the UT facebook group

not sure about only a one-day stay. i think you have to stay the entire time but you’ll need someone else to confirm that. if you can stay for only one day, you should go to the registering for classes day.

if you skip orientation, you can still register online but only until a week or so before the school year begins. try to avoid this because gathering the textbooks you need might take a while.

you most likely won’t be able to sign up for the fun classes you want, but UT always reserves the required classes for your major so you can still take your needed classes. the popular time slot and days to have those classes, however, will most likely be long gone.

I called to ask about my son missing part of orientation and was told that unless the student attends all orientation events they cannot register at that time. However, someone may cancel or change their earlier registration date, so it might be worth it to call them to see if you can switch dates.

I think you are still relatively likely to be able to get a room in honors housing

The class of 2013 facebook page is a good place to find a roommate.

Orientation is required, and you should definitely go to a summer orientation and not the August ones because summer orientation is a lot of fun and you’ll meet a lot of people. Especially if you don’t know very many people, orientation can be very good for you to get to know some other people and make some friends before school starts.

Plus if you wait til August you will have the absolute worst schedule choices ever–probably all 8 AM classes and difficulty getting the credits you need to graduate on time.
