I’ve found a boarding school I love and would really love to go to called Brehm Preparatory School. It’s a school for students with learning disabilities (I have high functioning Autism). It sounds perfect- the only problem is that it cost $80,000 a year, which is insanely expensive. After calling them, they said that they only offer up to $15,000 a year in Financial Aide, which my family very likely wouldn’t qualify for, a few thousand dollars in scholarships (which have already been given out), or there is a way to do something called due process to get the school district to fund it, but that required getting a lawyer, which is really expensive, and the battle will likely take to much time. Is there any other way this could be funded? I really need to get away from my family and home time. Thank you.
If you need the services the school offers and your own district cannot provide them (itself or by bussing you to another district), your district could be required to pay. This tends to be a very hard sell at most districts who are pressured by the taxpayers to find cost-effective solutions. As you note, it can take time and a legal battle.
But you can try.
Why do you want to get away from your family? In order to be considered for district funding you need a legitimate reason for attending a different school. Wanting to get away from home isn’t one of them.
If you need extra services that you can’t get at your school expensive boarding schools aren’t likely to be an option. It’s less expensive to bring in tutors and/or professionals who can supply services or to bus you to a local school for all or part of the day.
What do your parents think about boarding school? If they don’t qualify for aid it sounds like they’re upper income. It doesn’t sound like a great option for you anyway. In your other threads you said you have physical issues, are severely depressed, and can only attend classes 4 hours/day. It sounds like you need to be close to home and your doctor’s. Having parents who encourage you to get a high school degree isn’t a bad thing and it won’t get you district approval for funding to go elsewhere. You may want to note that if you continue to cheat and get caught you’ll get suspended from your public school. You’d be expelled from boarding school. Have you talked to your parents about how you’re feeling?
