HELP! How to transfer to a UC coming from a University

I am currently attending SDSU as a freshman for the Fall 2016 term. I realized that though I do love the environment, it’s not the perfect fit for me. I still have high hopes of entering a UC within my junior year of college and was wondering how I should go about this process. Looking through some of the forums I understand that people coming from a CSU usually transfer to a CC and I was wondering what you would recommend and if anyone is under my same circumstance. My initial plan was to just transfer back to a CC (Chaffey College) for the Spring 2017 term and continue from there until fulfilling all of my PreReqs for a UC. I hope to be admitted into UCR, UCI, or UCLA as my top picks. Anything helps! Thanks for reading!

You really ought to give SDSU a fair shot. It is a very good school and offers every bit as good an education as the UCs you are pining for.

Stay put and, if you still want to transfer, apply to several UCs next year.

If you play around with the transfer by year and GPA tabs on this (selcect the CSU source school button) you’ll see people can and do make the move from SDSU to UCs every year. The admissoin criteria and GPA thresholds are identical to coming in from a CC.

Agree with @NCalRent, give SDSU a chance. The semester just started Monday, so I really think you need to give yourself some time at least through Winter Break. Freshman year can be tough on a lot of students and academically SDSU is on par with UCR and even UCI depending upon major. There is nothing magical about a UC vs a Cal state. I love to use this quote “bloom where you are planted”. If you feel the same way after a year, then I would consider finishing up your GE’s and major prep at a CCC and try to transfer.

Use the link @NCalRent posted to help you make the transition if you feel SDSU will just no be the right place.

Good Luck.

As long as you meet the basic requirements and have a good gpa, I think you have a strong
chance of getting into any of the schools you listed.

I transferred to UCSD from UCR with 3.7 gpa but not so much extracurricular activities or anything else
to make myself more appealing. So basically just by getting good grades I managed to get accepted to
UCSD and other schools.

Considering how people say UC to UC transfer is difficult, you might have higher chance of getting into more UC
than me. Study hard, don’t fail classes, meet the requirements like UC writing/math, and all is good.

My question is, why so soon?

Were you not accepted to the UCs and aren’t willing to give SDSU a chance?
Careful what you wish for; each UC has a different personality.

UCI has a large commuter population and doesnt have that school spirit vibe like UCLA and SDSU.

UCR is underrated but is a good school.
UCLA is impacted and will be very tough to be gain admission because they like to admit from the CCs first.

If you are on any sort of financial aid, you will risk losing that wherever you transfer. If you really don’t want to attend SDSU, you can drop and get some kind of refund.

I did get into UCR and UCSB but the main goal was indeed UCI, which I didn’t get into. I guess it’s mainly cuz I don’t feel as comfortable at SDSU yet but you are all right in saying I should give the school a chance. If I still feel unfit, I decided on transferring to CCC for Spring 2017. I do major in business and I know that’s what the school’s good for, but it just hasn’t clicked with me as my dream school as much as UCI has. A huge factor is also the amount of money I’m losing as I don’t have any financial aid and the cost of living here is quite high whereas if I go to the CCC, I’d be saving thousands.
