How's the ucla communications program? How competitive is it exactly (gpa?)? How is it compared to other schools (usc, etc)? Thanks for any input.

Are you talking about transfer? if so, UCLA communication major is really competitive.
Your GPA has to be somewhere around 3.8 or above.
One of my friends who got into UCLA communication last year had 4.0 GPA.

It is very very competitive. It's not necessary to have a 3.8 or above but you have a better chance if you do. I've heard that about 10% of the applicants actually get in. The department tells you to have a back up major with classes that overlap just in case you don't. I actually got in with a 3.4 but I had taken 4 upper div com classes the quarter I applied and did well in them, as a last effort to get int the major. I don't recommend it but if you have time, taking one or two upper div classes wouldn't hurt.

The classes themselves are more theory based than any hand on application to a future career or industry. It's not a school like it is in USC, it's just a small department (hence the small acceptance rate).

Wow, I did not know that USC has a whole comm std department.

For those of you who have applied in the past, is the application just supposed to include your address, phone number, and email? That's all it asked for, so I'm worried I did something wrong.

yes, that was it.
it was so short i thought it was just a prelude to the actual application, then i hit "enter" and it welcomed me for applying!
the idea is that your coursework and grades should speak for themselves.

i got into USC school for communications under Public Relations. but as a spring admit..becuz ucla does not have PR as a major, i'm really uncertain as to what i should do. I know usc's school of comm is pretty legit, but i really don't know that much about ucla's comm program. If ucla had PR, then i would probably choose it hands down. can anyone help?
