Hi! I'm currently stuck between a couple of schools - Adelphi University, UCONN: Storrs, UMASS: Amherst, and Hunter College.

I'm also a NYC resident, which draws me to Adelphi and Hunter since both schools are so close to home.

The thing with Hunter College is that I heard that it's not student friendly.

Adelphi gave me the most scholarship (half-ride). It is also opening a new nursing facility in 2015. The thing that makes me iffy about the school is that it's a small commuter school.

I would have to pay the most for UMass Amherst and UConn since I am an out of state student (I don't qualify for New England). UMass Amherst gave me 10k and honors college while UConn gave me 5k.

I'm really interested in being in the whole school pride thing, which makes me like UConn.

I'd prefer living suite style than traditional style.

I'm really interested in going to the gym on campus, so a nice gym would be wonderful!

If any of you guys have any pros/cons about any or every aspect about the schools, it would be much appreciated! Thank you! ♥

As a parent from NYC I think you should go to a NY school as it sounds like you are going for nursing. I wouldn’t pay out of state tuition for something I could get in state that was just as good. The only reason we are waiting on umass is because he wants a sports management program housed in a business dept (not kinseology). I agree that Adelphi is a commuter school but I’ve only heard good things about Hunter… If your pocketbook allows then go where you would be most happy.

Sports management is a very competative field to get a job in. My s got into sports management at umass but im not sure what the end game is?

@bucky0926, yeah i’m going for nursing! what are some pros you’ve heard about hunter? I heard it’s really hard for students to register for classes

If you’re going for nursing then I’m not sure the tuition cost is worth it. As an OOS student, I am going to umass for the main reason that their computer science programs ranks very highly. I plan on going for both under grad and grad. If you can get a good nursing education elsewhere, go there. Umass is worth the money for me, but I doubt it would be for you.

I wouldn’t let registering for classes put me off. The only thing about Hunter is that its a total commuter school. If you want a dorm situation then Hunter is not the place (neither would be adelphi). But like someone else said you can get a nursing degree anywhere why pay more for umass? Save that money and go on vaction or get a reliable car. I only wish that CUNY had a sports management program for my son.

Ronboy, It I could get my son to go into one of the stem schools I would do it in a New York minute. But sports management is what he’s got his heart on so I have to support him. (STEM=science, technology, engineering, math). Do you at least agree that at least he comes out with a decent business degree as well?

I am going through the same thought process as well. But I am not so sure that getting a degree in sports management is the same as a business degree. Not nearlly as broad.

UMass has a pretty new rec center which is very nice. Also, the nursing program has a very good reputation. make sure you visit the schools.

Visit each school. Lots of schools look good on paper. You will know how you feel when you step foot on campus! The right fit is everything!
