I applied for housing back in November along with my $50 deposit. Now I am trying to indicate my residential hall preferences but I have no idea where to do this. Please help if you know anything!

You have to log in with your UTEID to get instructions.

go to BeALonghorn and log in, then click on the link on the left or far right (in your list of completed/pending items, just below Financial Aid on the right) for “Housing Status”. Depending on how far along you are in the process, you will have access to your hall preferences. If I remember correctly, you need to have paid your housing deposit and completed your contract before you can select halls.

I paid my deposit but I’m not sure that I remember any contract. What is it exactly? Do they send it to you or is it part of the original housing application?

Remember that the deposit is different from the application fee. You have to pay the $300 deposit and then fill out and mail in your contract. You can print out the contract from your Housing page; there is a button to click for it at the bottom of the page, as I recall.

Thank you very much VailsMom! I just found what you were talking about and that answered my question :)

You are welcome, purplegirl2010! The pages are rather text-dense I find and things are not terribly obvious. I think there should be more of an overview description of the process (most of what I learned I learned on CC, NOT on the Longhorn pages) and then a Step 1; Step 2; Step 3 explanation as you go through things.

Being OOS, the TX process is so different from the other schools that it blew my mind that people had to apply for housing as soon as their application was complete. If my son had known that, he probably would have pushed Texas up on his application due priority list/calendar!

Being OOS, the TX process is so different from the other schools that it blew my mind that people had to apply for housing as soon as their application was complete. If my son had known that, he probably would have pushed Texas up on his application-due-date-priority list/calendar! As it was, because he was applying to several schools, he put them in order according to due date of application or scholarship or honors programs, whichever was earlier.

As far as I can tell, he’ll be fine, but all I can really see is that he has a confirmed contract, they are looking forward to seeing him and he has indicated a preference for Honors housing. But there is nothing about whether or not he will get his preference, of course.

Sorry about the duplicate of the post: I got called away from the computer while editing and it didn’t quite work out.
