Hey! I am currently deciding whether or not to take AP Lang junior year. I am going to also take AP Bio, APES, AP World History, Engineering, Honors Precalc and Latin 1. I was planning to take a dual credit English program offered at my school that would give me 3 college credits and 1 high school credit. Another thing I should note is that I don’t really like English and want to be an Environmental Engineer. So… should I take AP Lang or a dual-credit English class? What do colleges want to see?
Either is fine with college.
I think i woudl suggest AP Lang…you can take the AP test and if you do well, you may get college credit. If you don’t , it doesn’t really matter. For the Dual credit your grade probably would could count for your college GPA and if you don’t do as well (even a B) that will be in your college GPA (but find out to make sure).
You coudl also do Honors English maybe.
My engineering focused daughter took AP language and is now able to place out of a required written communication class at college. She also said it helped tremendously for standardized tests.
agree with momofsenior1 my kids all took (or will take) AP language.
My daughter did all dual enrollment so she took college writing as junior English. All 8 schools she applied (most were not in state schools) would accept her English and give her credit for college English. She had an A but her grades will not be used towards her college gpa
It will also help tremendously when writing college applications, although DE may do the same.
Both of the above statements are highly college-specific. From the flip-side, none of the colleges to which I applied would give DE credit for any course, and none would waive the freshman writing requirement with a 5 on the AP exam.
@bopper is correct; either is fine for college admissions. In this situation, though, where there is a choice, I would suggest AP over DE

This was definitely our experience as well. Some schools had mandatory freshman English classes for engineers, others would accept the AP score.
