So here’s the situation: I’m thinking about transferring due to financial reasons. I love the school I attend, and I don’t want to leave, but it costs a lot of money. I got accepted to other schools of academic comparability, but I chose to enroll at the school I did because of some more intangible reasons (like the feeling of campus, the people, etc.). Here’s the catch: the other academically comparable schools I got into and turned down were much more affordable. My mother told me not to worry about the financial side of college and to just choose a school based on my “gut feeling,” but I can’t stop feeling guilty about going to the school that cost the most. And, on top of everything, my father is leaving his job and may likely retire, so that will change my family’s income too. Re-applying for FA will be an option, and hopefully I will receive more money.
However, would it be worth it to write transfer apps to schools that will cost less? I’m actually particularly fond of one of the schools I turned down last year (although less found about it than my current school), and I was wondering if my admittance as a freshman would help my transfer chances in any way (transfer acceptance is about 5%). Should I call the office of admissions and see if they can do anything? Since it is a financial reason to transfer, and since I got in as a freshman, I feel like they may be more inclined to accept me…
Should I wait to see how my current school re-evaluates my financial situation? I just feel like I would be able to save a lot more money for my family if I were to transfer to another school.
