I have a bit of a situation to work out if anyone wants to offer advice. I applied to Columbia, School of General Studies and I'm waiting for their decision. Their decision should come soon, but I have to let Boston College(to which I've been accepted) know of my decision by May 1. I'm not sure if GS's decision will come in time, and also I need to know how much financial aid I'll be receiving from Columbia before I can make a decision. BC is offering me a pretty substantial aid package, but I know that GS is not known for their generosity. Columbia is my first choice, but right now I'm beginning to worry a little about the possibility of attending.

If anyone who is familiar with GS wants to share any insights, I'd really appreciate it.

I applied early for GS and have not heard but I did call the admissions office yesterday and I was told that most of the letters will be mailed out on May 1. I also need to know if I am accepted because I have a job offer that is time sensitive and I need to get back to them but of course cannot until I find out if I get into Columbia or not...

I realize this is no help to you but my point is that most likely the letters will be sent out on May 1...

p.s. I understand your worry/frustration!!!

calling the admissions office and letting them know your situation will probably help. I'm sure if you call BC and tell them you'll need an extra day or two to get back to them, they're not going to kill you.

I called GS and they said that I'll just have to wait until they send my decision and I called BC and said that I can't have an extension in deciding.

Accept the BC offer and send in the deposit. If you hear positively from Columbia, evaluate how much fin aid you'll be getting and compare it to BC's.

If you do get into GS but the fin aid offer is not close to BC, call GS and tell them CU is your dream school and that although you'd like to accept, BC is offering a much better financial package.

Do the same with BC, see if they give you a bit more.

I already said this in another thread but I'd take the BC offer. It's not fun having to pay back 100k+ worth of loans. Plus, social life at GS ain't that grand. The attitude, starting from the President himself, is 'Oh yeah, those people.'
