Help, I got a D :(

For some reason, I just could not figure out AP Calc, and got a D first semester. I had taken three AP's that year, and had no idea what calc was or how it worked. I managed to muster a B second semester and got a 4 on the AP test, but I don't know how to make up that D or what. And will colleges scramble when they see that D? Had a bad sophomore year (2.4) but overall still a 3.3/3.6 and a 2320 SAT I, and acheived 4's and 5's on three AP tests each (4's- US History, Calc, Micro 5's- Macro, US Gov, Euro History), trying to get into UC's and USC, maybe Ivy's Reach, but doubt it. Can anyone else give me some tips or suggestions? I have 4 AP's in my schedule next year and plan to self study 2-3.

Thanks for your responses!

I think that’s still ok that you got D, however, I think you need higher GPAs if you want to get into good schools.

Thanks kpxcsfcubt!!

My kids HS only sends the final grades to colleges, so they may not even see that first semester grade. Check with your guidance counselor to see what your school sends. In any event, it helps that you were able to pull the grade up and do well on the AP test.

I suggest you apply to some OOS public schools. Forget UCs & USC. UCs are so GPA concious and not so worth the money. It depends on your major, some OOS public schools have acceptance rate >50%.
