Okay, I am really screwed. I was set on going to OSU and before starting in the fall, taking my time exploring which major to declare (probably biomedical engineering). But now, my friend told me about NEOMED (Northeast Ohio Medical University). It's a six year BS/MD program. It can be done at either University of Akron, Kent State, or Youngstown University.

Here are my concerns:
I would graduate with a weak degree from a nobody college.
I would spend 6 years of my life working myself to death.
I would have very little time off.
I wouldn't be able to change my mind and go into research etc.
I wouldn't have a BS to fall back on.
OSU would get me a BS in Biomedical engineering, making me a more well-rounded doctor (more job variety)

But OSU would be 8 years, maybe 7 with my ~29 AP credits.

The application for NEOMED is due in less than 2 weeks. I have no idea if I can handle the workload or if doing BS/MD would be bad for me in the future.

Let it be known that NEOMED will give me a guaranteed seat in their medical school while at OSU I’d have to get into OSU Medical School after doing Biomedical Engineering.

Here are my stats:
Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Weighted GPA: 4.34
ACT: 30
SAT: 1810
Class Rank: 3

What I’m really looking for is, which program would be better for me overall?

Sam,
Do not wish anything that you are completely unaware about. My D. was accepted to NEOMED, she choose to attend somewhere else. No crying for you as of now. She was also accpeted to OSU, to the selective program that required interview, OSU bs/md required to be NMF at the time she applied and she was not NMF. So, she ended up choosing non-accelerated bs/md. the best and the cheapest of the 3 that she was accepted. Choose what fits you personally the best, not what others have chosen. What program is the best for you, COULD BE DETERMINED ONLY BY YOU YOURSELF and nobody else.

Opsy, did not see ACT/SAT, 30/1810, these are too low for bs/md anyway. So, no regret on your part, just stick to what you have been doing. Engineering though is the hardest major. Keep up right away, your goal at college is a very high GPA as close to 4.0 as possible. So stay focused and neve look back!!!

OSU no longer has a bs/md program. If you want to take the risk and try to get into med school the regular route, go ahead. If you are entirely set on medicine, apply to neomed. First things first though, you need to actually apply and get into the program. Don’t automatically assume you will get into a BS/MD program because they’re generally difficult to get into. Also, OSU isn’t a well known school besides maybe athletics.

Once your a doctor no one really cares about your undergrad, but if you really care about having a good undergrad, apply to the drexel BS/MD programs. The undergrads are Lehigh University, Villanova University and Drexel University.

“Also, OSU isn’t a well known school besides maybe athletics”
-OSU is a well known and very well repsected Med. School as well as engineering and some others, at least in Midwest. Most pre-meds (maybe all) in OH, apply to OSU Med. School. Athletics - maybe those who are very interested, however, most very top caliber kids in OH apply to OSU undergrad and getting Merit award there is not easy at all. For comparison, my own D. got very little at both OSU UG and OSU Med. School. So, she choose to attend somewhere else on FULL TUITION Merit award and choose a different Med. School also because the small Merit award would not be enough to consider in decision making. So, the underestimation of OSU is not warranted at all, it is getting more and more selective with less and lees $$ available for top kids / valedictorians like my D.

^I never check ranking, but it bothered me that OSU was put down at the national level. Since OP is considering 'OSU would get me a BS in Biomedical engineering", I have checked OSU standing in Engineering. It is ranked 29 Nationally in 2012 by US News. It beats among others:
Duke, Yale, RPI, Vandy, Brown, Case, WUSL, Dartmouth, ND.

As I said, “among others”, as there are many fine UGs that OSU beats in national standing in engineering. So, I am not sure why is that known only for only athletics outside of OH. Somebody is creating the rankings based on some kind of data known outside of OH, engineering ranking would not be based on a success of OSU football team (not to diminish the last).
