Help, I have unsupportive parents!

@artloversplus

I think thats what I might do and attending UofC would be a dream come true but sadly my freshman year brought me down abit GPA wise. Also congrats for your daughter getting accepted there

@mom2collegekids

yes that is my weighted GPA (freshman year is really starting to bite me in the rear) My main school for merit based scholarship would be Carthage College since as of now, unless they change their policy, I can get around
15k for automatic merit based scholarships

@CountingDown

The 35K came from the federal methodology. I receently got laid off my summer job so I have only a little under 1000 in my bank account for college

I do not know UofC, but some schools do not count freshmen year GPA and you should seek those out. Perhaps you can get in a better school.

so what is your non-freshmen gpa? UW and W. and if you are an URM?

Speihei mentioned St. Norbert College. Putting your stats into the school’s scholarship calculator ([Office of Financial Aid - Scholarship Calculator - St. Norbert College](http://www.snc.edu/financialaid/calculator.html)), you would be eligible for a scholarship of about $11,000 (tuition and room and board is approximately $36,000).

Wow thanks for the reference to St. Norbert College seems like a sweet deal to me. Time to plan a visit =)

Good news is if you apply on line most colleges you have listed waive the application fee. I think you would get merit money at Drake as well as at several of the others that you listed so 30,000 is doable. Midwest privates are less expensive and more generous than east and/or west coast schools. Beloit is very generous.

^^^

And St. Norbert meets many of your criteria:

Size - Yes
Urban/Suburban area - Yes, near Green Bay
Newspaper/Radio - Yes
Accept AP Credit - Yes
Location - Yes
Student Life Balance - Yes

Double Degree - not sure but they have majors in both economics and history

I realize that when people sugest schools that you may not have had on your radar it’s a little weird but take a good look at St. Norbert - the student life there is great, the facilities outstanding, and the education is fantastic. And you can’t beat the price!

OP - Take a look at North Central College in Naperville - Here’s a link: [North Central College - North Central At A Glance](http://northcentralcollege.edu/x6311.xml)

Son #1 got great funding to go there, and loved it.
