What is your cost for U of R?

I have no idea right now. I should hopefully I will get it by the end of this week but if U of R was the same price as RPI, which one would be better?

Reasons for not picking schools:
Rochester- I found out today I have to pay $23,000.
Pittsburgh- I was wait-listed.
Drexel- I have to pay over $30,000.
Elon- They only have a 3-2 program in engineering.
Syracuse- I have to pay over $30,000.
CUNY- I will have to commute and they only have engineering in one college, which is in Harlem.
Northeastern- I have to pay over $30,000.

So I am left with WPI, RPI, and SUNY Binghamton. RPI is the most expensive at about $16000 a year in PLUS. WPI is around $13000 and Binghamton is about $15000. SUNY Binghamton doesn’t have my first choice major (Chemical Engineering), but they have a good balance of girls and boys. I know a couple of people that go there already. WPI and RPI are located in a less than desirable town. They have a gender gap, but they have strong engineering programs.

I most likely will pick RPI even though it hurts that the universities didn’t give me good aid. :(

“I think Syracuse and Northeastern are definite no’s. I know as a parent I would not be qualified to keep borrowing over $100 grand by the time you approach graduation, and you might get stuck. Even if you are personally committing to paying it, it is still their credit.”

I agree completely. I think RPI at this point or Binghamton would be the best options.

I wish you had applied to UB’s chemical engineering program. That is also my son’s program. He was offered $5000 provost scholarship and $3000 in another scholarship, which instate brought the COA down to about $4,000 a year.

He chose Lehigh, but Buffalo was high on his list.

I applied to UB’s chemical engineering program but they rejected me to their engineering school. That would’ve been optimal though. :/

Any chance of changing into Engineering while at Buffalo? I would inquire about that.

My D is graduating from WPI in May and loves it! WPI campus is in a nice section of Worcester and has a very nice campus. Have you visited? She joined a sorority and the gender gap has never been an issue for her. Since it is your least expensive option, you should consider it.

Yeah they told me I would have to apply to transfer after my first year or semester. I forgot which one. I don’t want to go there then apply to transfer and I still do not get in though. I didn’t get any scholarships from them because my SAT scores weren’t high enough.

I LOVED WPI’s financial aid package! The only thing is that it is really hard to get to from NYC and I’ve been told the engineering program isn’t as strong as RPI’s. I’ll do some more research though.
