AP Lit is considered the hardest humanities/art course (granted we only have AP Lit, Gov, Econ, USH, and MTAP) in my school. My teacher is amazing, and I do truly enjoy the class a lot. My previous experiences with Lit have been relatively a breeze: I got A’s in the most intensive Lit schedule my school offers, except for 1 B+ (it still counts as a B at my school though) first semester sophomore year, long story, but this class is killing me! I even got a 4 (kinda disappointing, but I didn’t prepare) on my AP Lang exam. I basically have an 87, and the cutoff for an A(-) is 89.5. The reason why my grade is so low is that my first four writing tasks I received 3 C+'s and 1 C ( grade is points earned/points possible), and it’s weighing me down soooo much. I’ve never gotten anything higher than an 85 on any legit writing task, and we write an average of 2 inclass essays a week (sometimes 3) with about ~120 pages of reading a week. We have technically 20ish school days until the semester ends, but the grade itself is still salvageable, unbelievably. Should I kick it into high gear, or let go and accept my fate?
So you’re upset that you have an 87 with half a year to improve? Based on your hysterical attitude your choice is obvious - raise GPA.
…it would appear you think making a B equates to the end of the world. I’d like to note it’s not the end of the world.
That being said, if you really want an A and believe you can achieve it by working harder, go ahead. It’s really up to you and how much you want that A and how achievable it is. Good luck.
Look, a B+ is not the end of the world.
Try to get that B+ since it sounds like most of your major grades are C’s -the next major tasks work toward a B and go see your teacher to know how you can get there.
@FinelyAgedPruno I’m a senior, I won’t care as much second semester. And no, if you even bothered to read my post correctly, you’d pick up on the fact that there are 20 days left in the semester, and then term grades will be entered.
@MYOS1634 Most of my grades are A’s. I’ve never gotten a C in any class ever, and my lowest grade in a class was an 85.
Sorry for this, but you said, “if you even bothered to read my post correctly…” That’s what you need to do with MYOS’s post. You said you have 4 C’s on writing tssks and a highest of 85. He/she refers to that.
@lookingforward no, those are individual grades (the ones that make up your grades) not the final ones. I even stated that I got several A’s in my lit courses. I can understand where he might have interpreted wrong, but he ultimately stated that he thought my final grades (the ones on my transcript) are C’s.
@basedchem Calm please. No need to be rude to @MYOS1634 or @FinelyAgedPruno . @MYOS1634 was referring to your grades in that class (your individual grades in AP Lit), as @lookingforward said, not overall, final grades.
MYOS said nothing about “final grades.” The phrase was “major grades” – as in the MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE CLASS. Which is true. You got four C’s and there’s no way around that.
In college, by the way, you often won’t have extra points from homework or quizzes to boost your grade. Whatever you get on the “major assignments” is what you’ll get in the class.
@XoXdreamerXoX Ok, yeah I get it. I think it was a misinterpretation on my part. Sorry @MYOS1634. I should have mentioned that those writing assignments were worth like 5 points each because it was the beginning of the year, so they aren’t a major portion of my grade. The things I’ve been getting B’s on are usually worth double or many times more than those assignments.
Wait, where is everyone getting the interpretation that the four things I got C’s on were major writing tasks? See my apology in the comment above for the real explanation.
This is what @basedchem wrote:
“The reason why my grade is so low is that my first four writing tasks I received 3 C+'s and 1 C ( grade is points earned/points possible), and it’s weighing me down soooo much.” @MYOS1634 suggested you to ask your teacher how to improve your writing.
I was only talking about your major grades IN THAT CLASS.
everybody assumed those 4 grades were important because otherwise the above sentences are “teenage drama”, like “I’m so bored I’ll make dramatic stuff up to give my life a bit more spice”. If the C’s are inconsequential, then they shouldn’t weigh you down. Improve your current grade on each assignement in the 20 days left and toughen up for college
@coolweather beat me to it
Ok ok wait I think there’s been a big misunderstanding here, so let me clarify. The C’s in themselves are inconsequential per se, but they do affect my grade because I didn’t earn as many points at the beginning, providing less buffer. If anything, the B’s I earn are inconsequential, as they drop my grade by no more than .3%, if any drop occurs at all. But point taken, I will go to my lit teacher as the semester comes to a close (I have already gone a couple times) to see if I can do some last minute battening down of the hatches.
Well I read MYOS’ post correctly and he never mentioned a class grade, he mentioned that you did get C’s on class assignments, but never once said you got a C as a class grade… It’s offensive to be rude to people for not reading their post correctly after you scolded someone for the same offense…
Don’t worry, if you play on going to high-end colleges/universities, you will be thankful to get a B or even a C in the class.
@MPC6789 at my school, “major grades” are referred to final grades in core subjects. Things like assignments are usually called “(category name) grades”. It was an honest mistake in misinterpretation on my part, and I already apologized to them.
^ Apology accepted, we’re good.
But seriously, don’t worry about these minute differences.
Lots of kids suffer in AP lit. The wise pick up what pieces they can and move forward.
But you have a certain amount of angst in your other threads, too, other B’s, including in math, so why this anxiety about AP lit?
