ok so its getting down to the wire and i still havent completed my list, so far im applying to:

u of arizona
u of illinois-urbana
DePauw u
emory u(ED, dad went there)

I have a 3.6 gpa w and 3.3 uw(upward trend, 3 honors a year) with a 29 ACT, possibly higher from 9/24

i would like to go to an LAC, u of i and u of a are my last resorts. i figure with the interest ive shown depauw i have a decent shot and emory is a longshot but i figure i might as well try for it. i need a school or two in between depauw and emory, but i dont know how selective of a school i can get into. does anybody have any suggestions?

my weighted gpa went: 3.1,3.33,3.33,3.66,3.8,3.8,and a 4.0 going this semester. so i guess it would be 3.4ish uw.

also my ideal size is about 5,000-7,000 but im willing to fluctuate as shown by illinois/arizona. also i would like to go southeast/southwest to school. northeast is ok but i havent taken the SATs and i dont plan to.

also i like LACs because im still undecided on my major and would like a year or 2 to figure it out. so i guess the better all-around the school is, the better it is for me. as far as the feel of the school goes, i would like whites to make up the majority of the student body and also mostly upper-middle class students. A lot of pride in the sports teams would be nice but i realize thats hard to find at smaller schools. Also id be ecstatic about any school with a beautiful campus (i.e. on the ocean, greenery, mountains, etc.)

Might try Holy Cross or Davidson both have lots of school /sportspride. HC beat Notre Dame in basketball last year in NIT and HC should make NCAA's this year.

St Lawrence is in your stat range & has a strong D1 hockey tradition.
Seton Hall might be good safe bet; excellent basketball
Maybe Syracuse; not LAC, but not immense--like Emory. Also a basketball powerhouse. Vandy might be possible.

U of Richmond, Rhodes, Centre & Sewanee (which were suggested above) are not not way out of reach; not sure about W&L. Claremont is big reach, & Pitzer is not sporty.

look for schools where a 29 ACT puts you in the upper half of admitted students and the selectivity is ~50% for decent matches.

If you plan on having the slightest amount of fun in college dont go to Denison.... lets just say it was my first choice until i spent a weekend there

U of I is a really good school... im going to recommend ohio university even though it doesnt really exemplify your wants... It is a great school check it out

Davidson and Washington and Lee are most clearly Reaches.

Furman, Rhodes, Centre are matches, Sewanee is a match if your entire application is strong, Richmond is possibly a Reach. But not a bad school to take a good look at for a good effort. Mercer in Macon is a match. College of Charleston a safety. Elon or Guilford in Greensboro, NC safeties.

Many people on Furman's waitlist had 1300s this year and were disappointed. Still, if you think you want a LAC, Furman delivers in the classroom. Full profs all the time and very supportive but high standards.

Since you are legacy, perhaps you should do a Reach application to Emory and get your strengths across in your application. Have you got SATIIs and AP scores to offer?

If you are willing to leave the Midwest and use your geography to your advantage, you will get an education at Furman that very much resembles that of Wake Forest or University of Richmond, schools with SATs in mid to high 1300s and with kids with high SATIIs. I am a grad and my classmates had excellent outcomes in grad school admissions from Furman. A similar profile school that is likely to admit you and also has strong outcomes is Dickinson. In MD you could consider Goucher. This year's matriculated class at Furman averaged about 1300 which is equivalent to your ACT and they seek male students and also geographic diversity. The campus is lush, and Greenville Spartanburg is near the NC mountains but also infused with that new south energy that you find along the highways to Charlotte and Atlanta. Many students are from Atlanta and Florida as well as the Carolinas. Keep in mind that Atlantans and Floridians are often pretty diverse so the school is lively.

A fine smaller college: Centre.
If you prefer Memphis on the Mississippi to Atlantans..go visit Rhodes College.
A fine small college in Virginia: Roanoke College
A fine public that feels private and seeks male students and is near DC:
Mary Washington University
