Help! I need advice on college

I'm a senior in high school this year and only just recently I have decided what I want to major in in college. I decided that i want to major in Zoology. I am afraid, however, that I have chosen too late and that not many colleges are accepting applications. Does anyone know of a good college that is less than 7 hours away from New Jersey that I could major in Zoology in that might still be accepting applications? My grades in school are pretty average. I think this marking period I might be getting straight A's for the first time ever, but I'm not sure yet. Last year I got mostly A's and B's and I think only a C twice. I'm very good in math and science. My SATs were...below what I would have liked them to be ... my best score was 1540 on the new ones... I don't know what that converts into on the old ones. I'm looking for like a medium sized college (around 10,000 or above). If you can, please help me and recommend a college based on this information. I would be very grateful.

get one of the guidebooks to colleges such as Petersons that will list schools and info on them (size, location, majors, deadlines, etc)

George Washington U
Hampshire C
Rutgers-Rutgers C, Newark, New Brunswick, Douglas
U Maryland College Park

U Vermont
Ohio U
U Mass
U Conn
Penn St
Southern Conn St C
U New Hampshire
Rowan U
SUNY Oswego
NC State
Juniata

George Washington U, is a school for him to apply to with a 1540/2400 on the new SAT i thought they got more competitive

It's a bit more than 7 hours away, but you really should consider Clemson in South Carolina. Clemson, Auburn, and NC State have the best zoology programs in the South. Michigan State also has a good program, but they're a little far too.

You also might try looking at colleges that offer ecology, which is essentially a combination of zoology and botany. The programs are usually very flexible. If you plan to do anything with zoology, you're going to need an advanced degree, so even a basic biology degree would be fine. :)

ohio u-athens, iu-bloomington, u of dayton... i think these are a bit far from jersey but all 3 are very good schools

Thank you everyone for your input. I really appreciate it. In addition to those colleges mentioned, I was also looking at University of Maine. It's a little more than 7 hours away from Jersey, but other than that it seems like a good place. But then again, all college's websites are going to say that they are a good school. Can anyone give me a thumbs up or down on University of Maine?

You might look at Cook College. I did not see "zoology" as a major, but it has some animal science majors that may interest you.

I don't know much about UMaine, but you should get admitted there. Another parent, backhandgrip, looked at it. You might do a search and read backhandgrip's posts about the school. You might also send a pm.

northeastmom- Thank you for your suggestion. I looked up the post you were talking about and it helped a lot. I appreciate other people comments about colleges because obviously the school's webpage will only say the good things about the school. Having other peoples input helps a lot.
