help! i need advice on housing in the units

i'm applying for housing right now and i'm pretty sure i want to live in the units. i need to list my top choices for housing, and i want to list doubles for the units, but should i ask for a plain double or a double that's part of a suite? which is better?

and which of the three units are the best? i think i heard one and two are the best but what do you think?

double that’s part of a suite is way better. don’t underestimate the importance of having your own bathroom right next to your room  i think it’s worth the money (esp since you don’t even have to clean the toilet yourself).

i’m in a double minisuite in Christian by the way.

Double that’s part of a suite means you get a bathroom to your suite, and ‘regular’ double is just a hall-style double with bathrooms shared between the entire floor.

Last year I lived in a Unit 1 regular room and not having “my” bathroom was never a problem (for me) - there were always free stalls/shower rooms/sinks in the communal bathroom and it really wasn’t (terribly) dirty or anything. It was also cheaper, which was nice (:

I wouldn’t recommend Unit 2 as it’s that much farther away (don’t underestimate the two blocks if you have an 8am XD). If you expect to have lots of science/eng classes on Northeast campus then maybe that swings it in favor of Unit 1? (:

haha well if u don’t care about the whole bathroom thing, then u should be fine. Like i used to kind of care because people would tell me it’s better to have ur own bathroom but i really don’t care anymore. It’s not something i worry about all day and night. there are other things on my mind then sharing a bathroom with guys and girls. lol

so having a regular double is fine. it’s kinda better because if u don’t like ur suitemates, you have a whole floor. but some of my friends are really close to their suitemates but u could also be really close to floormates depending on your personality. i’d say stick with the floor.

oh also i chose unit 3 because it was close to campus and because it has a cafe downstairs but i rarely eat there. I’d say unit 1 would’ve been the better choice so i wouldn’t have to climb the hill all the time and crossroads is really close/the food is way better. don’t fall for the rumors of crossroads being bad…the food comes from the SAME place! and they usually have similar foods at all the dining halls.

For me, it would be a tie between Unit 1 and 3. I am currently in unit 1 and I am pretty content with it. I live in a triple and at first, I thought it would be really cramp and what not. However, it is not that bad and we still have a lot of extra room in one closet because not all three of us have that much stuff. Unit 1 is pretty close to campus. It takes a block to get to Kroeber, Wurster, and Barrows. Unit 3 is the closest to Sproul. Unit 2 is pretty far. I agree that the 2 blocks does make a difference if you live in unit 2 especially at the end of the day when you are too tired to walk back to your room since you spent you whole day walking around campus to classes. If you want to live in a suite, choose unit 1 christian or slottman. If you want to live in a regular double then choose either unit 1 or 3. Stay away from unit 2. It is far and is close to that scary park :(. lol

Unit 2 Towle represent (mini-suite double)

steven boi’s right.

don’t hate on Unit 2… If you’re a transfer, Unit 2 is a great place to be because a lot of transfers live there. Walking is good for you. The difference in distance is trivial–Units 1 &2 are a street away from each other.

Any Unit is the way to go

yeah that’s what i’m thinking now. I’m so sick of my roommate doing stupid little things that i don’t even mind moving to unit 2! i can just bring my bike.

thank you so much for your responses! this is really helpful.
another question: im a freshman spring admit, that’s why i’m applying now. i think i heard somewhere that its hard for freshmen to get in a suite… so is it not worth it to choose a double or triple thats part of a suite as my top choices? im not even sure if they were talking about the units though, so i’m confused. would it just be better to ask for a normal double or triple in the units? thanks

The suite is a longshot.

Just go for the regular double/triple. The bathroom is how you manage to meet people anyways :)
