Is the school cliquey? How is the social scene? I know it’s a bar school, but what do kids do on the weekends if they don’t go to a bar? Do they hang out and watch movies? Are the kids friendly?
I’m not an expert on the school at all, but it is consistently voted as one of the most partying schools in the nation. That said, I am very sure there is plenty to do that doesn’t involve partying, because there are a lot of smart, motivated students at Syracuse. It has a large enough student body that there are likely many things to do on weekends that don’t invoke drinking. I know several very friendly students there who are happy and they are not hard-partiers. It’s a big school, and it’s not high school. I doubt cliquey is a thing there.
Lindagaf is pretty much spot on. My son is a sophomore engineering major and most definitely not a partier. He and his friends find plenty to do and the school sponsors a good amount of activities on the weekends that don’t involve drinking. School spirit is big and pretty contagious. There is definitely something for everyone. The biggest negative is the weather (which my S actually doesn’t mind)!
