Help, I really don't know what to do :(

I have a problem.
I suck at physics and I hate it. I'm struggling A LOT in that class.I'm a senior and I applied to Harvard. My question is: which will hurt my chances less, (I know I'll be hurt either way) dropping my AP Physics class now, or staying in it and having a C- average?

:(

Meadweb--I don't think anyone could tell you which one would hurt less in terms of the admissions process b/c none of us are part of the committee, but if you really dislike physics that much, you might want to consider dropping the class for "personal happiness." Now, I don't know you personally, so you've obviously got to be the ultimate decision maker, but from the way your situation sounds, your time may be better spent elsewhere (ie: in a class or activity you actually like).
I've dropped an AP class myself. Though I did well in that class, I found the class to be boring. Will it hurt me in college admissions? Possibly, but my time was better spent elsewhere.
Please take my words with a grain of salt. I don't want to be blamed for anything, but I hope this helps somewhat.
Good luck!

I've never really been in your situation (probably cause I haven't taken physics yet ;)) but I would highly advise dropping the class. I doubt Harvard will even take the drop into consideration...the only kid I've ever heard of that had his admission rescinded had that happen to him because he completely let his grades slide (C's and D's).

So with that observation, I would actually recommend that you drop the class instead of earning a C or a D. Unless you were planning to major in physics, of course....then I would suggest a serious reconsideration of your intellectual preferences!!!

So to sum up my two cents, drop the class because Harvard probably won't care and you'll be much, much happier. :)

Good Luck!

Drop. You can cite personal reasons. I don't think it could hurt more than a C-, unless most of your grades are around the B/C area (which I'm assuming they aren't).

related question here, I have had straight A's but for 2nd quarter, my grades in 2 classes might be Bs
would that seriously hurt my already low chances?

Alright, thanks, I'll drop on Monday :/

If you're shooting for Harvard, then yes, Bs will probably make your chances even slimmer. My cousin had a 97 average and got rejected by yale. ouch, i know. I'd say Harvard is a far shot. But hey, you never know. You might get lucky.
anyhow, good luck

silentorchestra - don't compare me, you don't know my situation.

Haha, look at it this way. Everyone sucks at physics, just make sure you suck less.

I'd say drop that class.

I'm struggling with this same problem. I'm terrified dropping will ruin my tiny chances as well at a number of schools.

I don't know if yall have this option at your school, but you could take the class Pass/Fail. That way you're still in it, still getting credit, and will still get credit for the AP test (if you do excellently on it, I guess), but the numerical grade won't hurt your average. I had the same problem in AP/IB Calc BC and made a 74 for one of my six weeks' grading periods (luckily my semester average was a B, so nobody will ever see that 74), but instead of dropping the course I am just taking it P/F. I know I can pass every six weeks', and since even the Mid Year Report doesn't require information about your second semester grades, I don't see how it will hurt chances.

(By the way, every single course I take is AP/IB, so doing this is not really that big of a 'slacker' move, or at least I don't think so.)

you guys can still drop? we have to fight to drop a class at semester and they prob wont let you do it ---dropping band to take a required class was a nightmare
