help, i think i might want to transfer AGAIN

straight out of high school i went to college in new york city. i was doing very well and was very successful until my sophomore year, when i decided it was best to take some time off from college. a year later i transfered to nyu (last spring). so far i've hated every minute of it. i feel like it's a combination of living in the city and not enjoying my course of study. i typically do very well in school, but my grades have been erratic at nyu. not sure what i should do. but i feel that it might be wrong to continue with an expensive education when i'm not engaged. i feel restless. does anyone know what i feel like?

nyu is not a great fit for everybody…this city can certainly be overwhelming and the lack of a central campus can make social life hard at times, or so im told

if your really not happy there, i certainly would not dismiss transferring

I wouldn’t say NYU is a great fit for everybody in the least bit. While it’s a great school in a great city and I would love to attend, the size, setting, and cost definitely does not fit everyone’s preference when it comes to school.

Back on topic, to answer your question I know what it feels like, as I’m sure most people do on this particular forum since no one would be here if they’re not at least considering transferring from their current school to a new one. My reason’s similar to yours, I wasn’t happy due to a number of factors. However if you’re not happy with your current course of study, have you considered a new major? I know NYU does make it difficult to change if your major falls within another school at their university but they do have a lot to offer. But at the same time I can understand where you’re coming from, paying NYU’s tuition and not being happy or performing your best. If the thought of transferring a 2nd time as your title suggests is something that’s holding you back.. don’t let that stop you, I can assure you, you wouldn’t be alone.

Good luck in whatever you decide. :)

I’m an NYU freshman, also considering transferring.

unlike you, I do like NYU though, the schools great. I’m transferring more for personal reasons, plus it’s freaking expensive.

I can understand you feeling overwhelmed. sounds like nyc is not right for you - you didn’t like your first nyc college or nyu, so maybe it’s time to leave the city? just a suggestion. the city isn’t for everyone. If i were you, I would look into transferring…if accepted, you don’t have to take the transfer if you end up enjoying NYU. Good luck

for a social life, it’s possible. but you definitely have to go out and meet people directly.

to improve your grades, it’s best to ask your professor for help during office hours. professors wont know unless you tell them since there are usually so many students in the class to keep notice of them. did you take advantage of the college learning center/writing? i also got some help from graders and T.A.s and was able to appeal one of my test grades too.

remember, transferring is a possibility but it can be even worse (or better) if you transfer to a different school.
