I am currently looking at 3 schools right now and I'd really rather not apply to any others. I know they're selective, but I don't know HOW selective, and I'd really like a safety if they're all reaches, so can I get your opinion?

I have a 3.55 uw GPA (I'm rather lazy with my homework, I'll admit), I'm in the top quarter of my class and early 30s on the ACT. I've got really good extracurriculars (involved in theater--directed a few school plays and wrote a one-act performed freshmen year) and I'm OBSESSED with writing and filmmaking. I've made tons of movies, won some writing competitions, and published some photographs in a magazine. I also might study abroad in Ireland first semester of my senior year. I'm hoping my ECs will make up for my mediocre GPA (there's a 'C' on my transcript...ouch). Also, I'm a writer so hopefully I'll be able to pen a kickass essay.

My 3 schools are NYU - Tisch, Emerson, and Chapman. I'll be applying to all their film production programs. I know NYU is the biiiiiiig reach, but what about the other two?

If the other two are big reaches, does anyone know of a safety I can apply to with a strong film program located in a metropolitan area with a lot of stuff to do? Money isn't too much of a concern.

Well, do you think my chances at Emerson and Chapman are good? I'm in love with those three, so if so I really don't care about applying to other colleges as long as I get into one of those 3.

However, if it doesn't look good for any then I'd like a safety. Does anyone think I need a safety?

I's say your biggest issue is whether money is an issue. All of those schools are not generous with aid. You should get into Emerson and Chapman, but since film programs are so popular you should add a forth absolute safety, probably a state.

I think you are in good shape, although you could probably add one more low safety if you think it's necessary. Emerson shouldn't be a problem with your GPA, test scores, and interest in film (as long as you convey it effectively). I don't know Chapman, but I assume it's slightly less competitive. NYU is probably a low reach for you.
