Help IB student aiming for UPenn?

Hi guys

I'm currently on my last year of the IB programme, and I'm thinking about applying to UPenn on ED, but I'm really worried about my predicted grades because my level for A1 English (SL) is pretty ****ty compared to my other scores (which makes it stand out even more lol).

Biology HL 7
Economics HL 7
Psychology HL 7
Mathematics SL 7
French B SL 7
ENGLISH A1 SL 5

Will this 5 in English hurt my chances a lot in admissions to UPenn, considering the fact that English is a core subject?? I mean a 5 is not really a terrible score, but I'm scared that this might reflect me as a student who's good at subjects like science but bad at English, so could this be a serious problem?

My Verbal + Writing SAT scores are fine though.
CR 750 W 800 (M 770)
Can they make up for IB English?

Thanks in advance! :)

SATs are FAR MORE important than IB scores, at best IB scores are looked as one supplementary piece of information about an applicant.

You are fine. If you get rejected, it won’t be because of a single 5 on an IB exam. Understand that the international competition for Penn is extremely tough. Most successful applicants have a noteworthy accomplishment that sets them apart from the crowd in a positive way.

but as for the SAT’s, should I take them again in october right before the ED deadline to try to improve the CR score or take subject test Literature to prove my english ability? How hard is it to get a 750+ in literature?

Thanks for the replies :D

Your CR score is fine. You are worrying too much.

If you’re applying to Wharton, and your school offers HL Maths, your course-rigor will seriously be taken into question.
