Help, Idioms!!

Hey can someone please provide the main patterns for idioms? Like for gerunds and verbs following another verb.

Also, is there a good site that lists idioms for verbs? I find it difficult to tell whether sentence is idiomatic or not on the writing section, for example, would the correct phrase be "insight of" or "insight in." Little things like that have devestating effects on my writing score.

Is there a general pattern to consider when identifying whether an idiom is correct or flawed?

Furthermore, is it "tendency of blinking" or "tendency to blink." ETS says it is the latter, but why? Is it always wrong to have "of + gerund" used as a complement?

i don't think there's ANY reason idioms are how they are.. but as for "tendency of blinking," yeah... i think gerunds are wrong like 99% of the time on the PSATs. they just make it wordier than it needs to be - PLUS, since it's an idiom, it's futile to try to explain why they are correct. there's no reason. just learn it.

i don't know where to look idioms online, though i'm sure all you need is to do some quick googling... or buy a book. choose one of the above.

Anyone know if PR's Grammar Smart covers this?

yes they do i've toruble with idioms too, i'm gonna get it

Grammar Smart has some good idiom lists. I skimmed over it the day before the SAT, and easily saw the error in "inconsistent to," which should be "inconsistent with."
