I have some decisions to make as an incoming freshman

Two colleges.
UC Santa Cruz majoring in Economics or
UC Santa Barbara double majoring in Economics and Financial Math and Statistics

I have no desire to work on wall street and would much prefer the bay area or los angeles. Has anyone attended these schools, or are all of you from elite academic institutions? Have you had any colleagues from the UC system, not including berkeley or LA? I plan on achieving on a high GPA and am looking to work at a top investment or financial firm on the west coast, got any tips or pointers you are willing to share? Thanks to all that help in advance

Thanks for the help people, greatly appreciated.

What does it matter?

You’re obviously destined to clean fishbowls.

Cool story bro, move along. Now I know not to give you a nice tip when I valet my car.

UC Santa Barbra has a regional ib that recruits a lot for summer iterns. You could take it and try to get a better internship/ft offer at a different bank.

It will definitely be tough to get into a top shop from either school. Regional or boutique opportunities, however, are far more likely. That said, with a high GPA, it will depend on 1) your major - you want a strong accounting and finance background coming from a non-target, and 2) which school has a stronger network, even if regional/boutique heavy - I would check the schools’ websites and call career services - it can help to know who comes on campus and whether they know of students landing in said fields. Additionally, reaching out to a few alumni, if you can, would help as well.

PM me if you have other questions.
