You should probably point out to your parents that in two years (you’re a junior, right?) you’ll be gone and they won’t be able to control you all the time. And no matter what you do, they won’t be able to do a thing about it. So they might as well start letting go now so that things will be easier come the time you go away.

I live in New York and it’s half and half. Some people’s parents don’t care, some are in the middle, and some parents don’t want their kids to go to college more than half an hour away. (Okay, more like thirds)

My parents trust me. They know I wouldn’t do anything terrible because I care too much about school and stuff like that.

^Wow! That’s a bummer for both of you. My parents are somewhat strict, but that’s ridiculous with your rooms. My mom wants it to be picked up, but she wouldn’t disown me for it lol

Sometimes I wonder if they are serious though b/c yesterday they told me that they wouldn’t take me to see NYC. Now today, they are asking me to schedule the visit for them. What do you think? is it just a threat or are they serious…
They act serious…

Thats what I was thinking last night too…
I wonder what would happen if I only applied to University of Chicago ( far away)
would they pay for it if I got in or what do you think they would do…
I probably shouldn’t test them…
(sigh)

Just be extra good and perhaps they’ll reconsider. But I do think you guys need to have a big sort of family talk in which you (calmly) explain that you are growing up, and that in order to be able to be a successful adult you need to be a little more independent, and they need to realize that. Applying to one college probably isn’t a good idea, though.

My parents won’t get me a car, either. But it’s because most colleges don’t allow cars, so after this year I won’t need one. Not to mention cars are expensive.

that was just to get your attention, no hard feelings.

you can get your own email(yahoo, gmail, etc.) and aim accounts. use google. it’s easy.

get in shape. do some kind of physical activity. work up to 200 pushups every morning. i don’t care, just do it.

dress like an adult. put on a nice watch. replace your sneakers with boat shoes and your basketball shorts with khakis. if your hair is long, cut it.

stop whining. you whined a lot in your first post.

most likely, no one else believes in you. so believe in yourself. harden the **** up.
