HELP! I'm so confuseddddd!!!!!!!

OKAY. So I submitted my FAFSA and signed it electronically. One school has received it, while the UCs haven't and I'm confused as hell. I also chose that I was dependent, and then they stated I was independent and didn't need to put info about my parents. Can someone help me? If I make corrections, do they send the updated FAFSA to the school or does the school receive all of my applications if I correct it multiple times? And I'm going to be an incoming freshman for the year 2010-2011, does that mean I fill out the form for "2010-2011"? I'm so lost. Why do I get emails saying I haven't submitted my FAFSA when i signed it? -____- sorry. I'm freaking out sooooo much.

Stop freaking out. When you correct it make sure every answer is correct. Did you perhaps put down the wrong birthdate? Did you make a copy before you sent it so you can check your answers?

On JHU’s website it says that they will not mark FAFSA as “received” until around February, regardless of when you submitted. Maybe the UC’s are doing the same thing.

You must have submitted it if one school has received it.

Are you 24 years old? You’re not a vet are you?

Yes, you fill out the 2010-2011 form?

If you’re a typical high school kid, then you must have put some info in wrong if it thinks you are independent.

ok theres a section for “you and your spouses income” i dont have a spouse. do i just leave it blank? but it asks for the tax return. and i have to choose an option…

leave the spouse part blank…

But, are you almost 24 years old or older?

Why is it saying that you’re independent?

no i’m 17. i really have no clue why it says i’m independent.

There are a number of questions on the FAFSA that are answered Yes/no and they determine FAFSA dependency. If you answer YES to any of the questions…it will tell you that you are independent…

Are you married?
Do you have a bachelor’s degree?
Are you a veteran?
Are you an orphan or ward of the state?
Do you have a child that you support?
Is your birthday before____ ? (I don’t remember the exact date but it would indicate that you are going to be 24 soon).

If you answered YES (even by mistake) to any of these questions…the form would tell you that you are independent.

At this point…did you happen to print out your FAFSA before you submitted it? If so…CHECK the answers to the questions. See if you put a wrong answer by mistake.

Also…did you provide the PARENT information on the submitted FAFSA? That is important because if you are really a dependent student you MUST provide that.
