okay i wanted to apply to these schools:
Rutgers - NB (i'm in-state)
penn state - the main campus
NYU
U of Illinois - Urbana- champagne
Drexel
Pace
University of Miami
university of michigan
Hofstra
University of Texas - main campus
American University
Fordham University
Syracuse University

My GPA however is terrible: 2.3
SATs
Math: 690
Critical Reading: 590
Writing: 560
Total: 1840
not the best i know, i'm expecting my ACT results to come in by the end of next week or the week after.
My extra curriculars are:
Lacrosse:3 years (captain my senior year) 2 Varsity letters
Basketball: JV- 2 years
football: JV - 2 years
soccer: JV - 2 years

I've been in Model UN for 3 years; my school has won many awards
and i have over 500 hours of community service

Take off the obvious reaches - UIUC, UTA, UMich because you have no shot there. They all count class rank or GPA as very important. For the others go out to their Common Data Sets and look at section C7 to see which don’t look much at GPA.

Are you getting recruited for lacrosse? Because that could help you get into some of these schools…otherwise your gpa is something that could be hard to overlook for most of these places.

FA = Financial Aid. The question is can you afford to go to the schools you’ve selected. It does little good to get accepted and then find out your parents cannot afford to pay $50K per year for a school that you now love.

No offense–and do not panic–but you really need to substantially revise your
list and your expectations based on your GPA. You seem interested in large state schools. You might want to look at your chances at UMA, URI, SEC and Big 12 schools other than UT.

The faster you talk to your guidance counselor, the better and consider buying a guidebook. Good luck.

I think several of the schools on your list are reaches. I would panic just yet because you do seem like you have athletic talent and some decent involvement in school. I’d choose maybe 2-4 of the schools on your list to apply to as reaches and then find some other schools to be safety’s and targets.

Drexel, Hofstra, and Fordham might be some good target schools for you, but I would call the rest a reach. Try to think of some safety’s and DEFINITELY get in touch with your guidance counselor. Good luck :)
