Help in AP Calculus so can attend UCLA

We learned two things today: First, my son was accepted to UCLA. Second, we received his interim progress report for his last semester of his senior year showing an "F" for AP Calculus.

We, desparately, need the best advice for a book/online tutoring/interactive program or tutor in the Bay Area to help him get this fixed. UCLA, like (we think) most UC's, only offer "provisional" admittance, and if you have a D on your final transcript, the offer of admission can (and likely will) be revoked.

In addition, his application for admission to the US Naval academy is still pending, and USNA requires a full year (minimum) of calculus at the Academy. So if he should receive an offer of an appointment, tanking AP calculus may well tank that (preferred) avenue as well.

He'll put in the work, but we have no time to flail around figuring out what is the best source of help (and our son's parents--that is, us) have zero ability on our own to evaluate calculus help (other than finding out after the fact that it did or didn't work).

Thank you.

Which level of calculus (AB or BC) is this? And where in the Bay area are you looking for tutors?

I was also loaned the Princeton Review book by my school, and I found it very helpful.

Looking in the East Bay, but will be flexible

Also, it’s AB calculus.

Well I was also accepted to UCLA and I live in Walnut Creek. I took AB last year as a junior and got 2 A’s and a 5 on the AP test. This year I’m taking BC, so I would say I have a solid understanding of the AB material since the topics (volumes/differential equations/related rates) all repeat. Please contact me if you’re interested in my tutoring services.

I came to UCLA with 0 calculus experience. I was thrown into it first quarter, freshman year. I seriously learned EVERYTHING via youtube. Seriously, search for random calculus topics (there is a guy there his youtube screenname is patrickjmt and he is really good. I believe he also has a website with even more videos.

drop the class

You might want to give the Bay Area Tutoring Center a call. They have centers in both Berkeley and San Ramon. Their director is an excellent math/science tutor, himself. As a teacher, I’ve referred many students there.

Best of luck to you and your son.
