Hello, I am a junior in high school. I don't apply until next year but I want to "pseudo-apply" this year by looking over applications for different schools.

I can find the the common app but for specific applications, I am completely lost. For example, I can not find the Rice 2014 Supplement. All I can find are descriptions of what the application requires, consists of, etc., but not the actual application itself with the essays and information to fill out.

The same goes for MIT's application. I created a myMIT account but I can't find the application itself and the essay questions.

Am I just bad at searching or am I not allowed to view the current applications because I am still a junior? Basically, what is the ABSOLUTE first step in starting these applications?

Most colleges still provide a .pdf of their application on their admission websites for students without Common App access (like international students). You could download those to get an idea what supplemental info the colleges ask for. Honestly, spend your time now figuring out what colleges are the best fit, visiting if you can, working hard on your ECs and grades so they are the best they can be, and running Net Price Calculators to make sure you can afford them. Also, work on a list of your ECs and every accomplishment/award/etc. from all your years of high school, you will need that to build your EC list for the Common App. Those activities would be much better to work on than working on the applications a year ahead of time.

The Common App comes out in August. A few colleges release their essay questions earlier (eg, U of Chicago). The Common App essay questions will probably be the same. You should have plenty to work on before August, and start your actual applications then.

Thanks for answering, I will definitely use your advice. However, you mentioned that they still provide their applications in .pdf format.

Where could I find this for, say, MIT? I’m at the website (<a href=“MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/index.php/) and I can’t find any copy of the application. However, I do notice that they are saying the 2015 application is open through MyMIT but when I log on, there is nowhere where I can find the application.
