hey thanks for the reply but u know mitadmissions.org doesnt provide the exact information i’ve been lookin for … i mean i m already short on resources and even if i ask anybody all i get are variable replies so i thought that u might be interested to help me out step by step if u cud …

^ We can’t read minds here. If you have specific questions, ask specific questions.

Check out this one.

PiperXp …well umm to be precise i actually asked one … As an Initernational Applicant what are the factors that are most required or that would affect my admission apart from my SAT scores ?? …

Phoestre … Thanks for the link but i have already read this one out !!! …

^ No, you didn’t actually ask a specific question. You are still asking general questions, which are answered on the Admissions website. To find out what factors affect admissions, go to section 5 of the website - there is plenty of information there. Off to the left on the website, under each section, you can see blogs related to the topic you’re looking for information on, too.

If you do have a specific question, please feel free to post it here.

For the record, MITChris both an MIT admissions officer and the MIT Admissions website’s webmaster, so I’d probably believe him when he tells you that pretty much everything you need to know is on the website if I were you.

PiperXP… Thank u so much for your help and support … well i went through the page u advised and i really feel many of my doubts clearing away in a flick !!! … But still the main problem that i m facing is that whatever is posted on the blogs etc. are with respect to U.S. or similar study structures while in the system that i have been studying for last 12 years is far too different and the college admissions in my country are strictly based on the results of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) and no other things like Interviews,Essays etc… So what i m finding out while applying to MIT is quite a lot different …
Like i wanted to ask that i have been an academic type of a person from starting of my school life,while co curricular activities are something i have been extensively been participating in but i have never gone too far in these things. Similarly i am pretty good at sports and have even led as captain in my class teams but i have never played them on state or national level. On the other hand i have been really good with Olympiads like NSTSE,NTSE,SSTSE, IMO , NSO , KVPY , and a lot more but even many of them were National if not International Olympiads , While if i apply to any college in India ,these are the facts that are not even payed a glimpse through complete application process right even till i achieve my graduation, but these things count a lot when i m applying to MIT … so what would u say upon this situation … Wud it be adversely affecting my complete Application ??

k4r3n2 … Well i do really respect MITChris for the matter of fact that have been reading all the Blogs posted be her on MIT’s website so u can be pretty sure that all the advisory i get specially from her would be absolutely first attended … But i was only saying what i felt and if u have read whatever i have written above i think even you will conclude that i was not completely wrong but even then if there is a mistake from my side i completely apologize !! and i’m still longing to hear from u if you could help me out !!

^ All of those things - the sports you did, your Olympiads, your interview, your surroundings/the type of opportunities you had, etc - will be taken into account with your application. Don’t worry about it :slight_smile: And yeah, many international applicants find MIT’s admissions process to be completely different from their homeland universities’ processes. It can be overwhelming at first, but just take a deep breath and a little bit of time to figure it out.

Also, I will note that MITChris is male, so you may want to use “him” instead of “her” ^_^

hhahhahahahha … Gosh my bad i m really really sorry i confused him with Kris on MIT’s blog site !! … I deeply apologize for that !!! … And thanks for those words i really needed them … Well i m gettin somewhat hang of it But yet again i came to know sometime ago that only 2 students get selected from whole South Pacific … So is it true ??

Possibly? There are no quotas for different regions, so there are fluctuation year-to-year as to where accepted students come from. It depends on the strength of the applicant pool.

I doubt it’s only 2. MIT took 15 from China this year. So for India, it should be somewhere in that ballpark as well.

@PiperXP , iceui2 … Yaa well i know rather than think that u guys are absolutely right i mean it’s simply foolish to even ponder on ur expertise on this … But i still haven’t actually known anyone from India native to me or my surroundings that hv been there so it has been really difficult for me to gather enough information except for u guys so i really wanna thank u for every bit of help that u r givin to me … well i shud tell it’s a really stupid question but can u assess that if i really have a shot for being selected if i provide u with my particulars both academic and others ?? … i mean it will really help me to get a better start once i start fillin up the application form and gettin through with the process !!!

@PiperXP , molliebatmit and all other members

heyy i just wanted to ask a few things

will being weak at some extra-curricular give me disadvantage in the admission process ???

In the form i saw was written that i have to submit my mid-term grades with a photocopy … well it’s like my school gives my report-card (Mark sheet u can say ) at the end of the academic year (that happens to be around mid April next year for XIIth grade which i m currently studying in) and i have to send my form around November this year therefore i will not be able to supply that … therefore can i send an affiliated copy of my secondary school report which has been issued by my country’s education board (CBSE) … which may be more relevant as it follows the Grade Point system followed by most of the education systems in U.S. ??

What are the additional documents that i have to send being an international applicant and can i apply for early action too ??

Please reply as soon as possible !!!

You will need to submit your grades in progress at the time of the application to the degree that you are able. I think sometimes people in systems like yours have their teachers calculate estimated grades and send those, but I’m not sure.

International students cannot apply early action. It’s for US citizens/permanent residents only.

^ What do you mean by weak?

As for the transcript issue and the additional documents, I would email admissions to ask what you should do. You cannot apply early action as an international student.

@molliebatmit …

Well that’s the main reason that i asked this cause in my system there are no but marks … and hence teachers can’t evaluate how much m gonna score in my board exams (that’s the highest level of examination that u can give being in a school ) cuz my marks would be split up between practicals and theories for both of which i would be examined by some external whom i have never known in my life … But if u want i can send u a scanned copy of my secondary board examination result (which is considered equally important as XIIth grade marksheet as mentioned above with the only difference that it will have grades and GP instead of marks in each subject) … to ur email so that u can tell me if it satisfies the requirements or not …

@PiperXP …

hahhaah well by weak i literally mean that no accomplishments have been made above school level in fields like theatrical,social service,sports … but i have been pretty awesome in Olympiads both national and international …
Heyy and thanks a tonne for taking the pains of emailing the admissions for me … i know i have been pretty disturbing for you but you are the only and best source available to me to help me getting through MIT … and i really appreciate that …

^ Er, Olympiads are an accomplishment, which is why I’m confused by your question. Olympiads count as good extracurriculars here.

What they do ?? … i was told that they only account for what i have done in academics , So when i m filling up the forms … should i just list them or i have to attach my certificates and all ?? …
