Hi, I have a problem when I study for SAT-Critical Reading. In Short-Passage, I generally

do good, but I do really poorly on Long-Passage Reading Comprehension! I try to read

each passage one detail by one detail, but I found out this wll take too much time. Some

people said that skimming is good for Long-Passage, but whenver I face the Non-Fiction

Long Passage, I always fail!

What kind of methods or strategies you use whenever you handle SAT-Critical Reading:

Long-Passage Reading Comprehension?? How do you do skimming when the passage is

about Non-Fiction like science?

What works for me is simply changing up my attitude about the material. When I took my test earlier this month, I hated how bland the passages were, but I forced myself to love them for that instant of time. Non-fiction can be very drab but it can go very fast and you’ll get more out of it than you normally would.

I read the passages and then see if I can answer any questions right off the bat. If I can’t, I go back to the passage and search for them. If I’m stuck or stumped, I play Devil’s advocate. Just remember that just because it sounds right doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the answer choice. It’s all there in the passage. I think what works best is using practice tests to gauge your skills but also use it for time management. Try and work on that. It just takes practice.

Hi, I have a problem whenever I study for Critical Reading’s Passage Reading Section. For Short-Passages, I generally do well by fast reading, but I almost always get stuck whenever I approach Long-Passages. For Long_passages, I heard that skimming is best to apporach, but the idea of skimming always interrupt my reading whenver the Long-Passage is Non-Fiction.

How do you approach Critical Reading: Passage-Reading (Esp. Long-Passage)?
