help in where i should apply to (URGENT)

im currently a senior in high school, and i want to eventually go into medicine. what is the department most pre-med students apply to at mcgill?

if you want to goto med school, mcgill might not be the place to study pre-med. Pre-med here is hard (aka, ruins your chances at med school if your not stellar). Find some place easier.

thanks? i'd really like it if someone on these damn boards would have a sunnier disposition.

hahaha. Listen, honey, it doesn't get sunnier here. Amidst the McGill bashers I'm one of the few who actually has nice things to say about the school; I won't lie, though: McGill is hard, and pre-med is no exception here. If you can make it out alive, you'll be more than prepared, the question is though: can you make it out? Statistically, you won't.

The pre-med kids usually study Bio or Physiology (both fairly big/midsized programs). There's also a pharmacology department, however it only offers a minor.

There are plenty of routes to med-school, not just pre-med. I've heard of english majors getting into med-school (in fact, being pre-med these days is more liable to hurt you).

My point is this: mcgill is hard. period. Med schools look at your GPA, and MCAT score. If your GPA appears poor (aka the med school isn't aware of mcgill's difficulty) then your chances at med school are hindered.

i intend on applying to medical school & i'm u1 (sophomore year) Microbiology & Immunology. i really like my program & i'd definitely recommend it if you're interested in biology on a molecular/cellular level - and understanding diseases and immunology. it's challenging here, but typically the pre-med curriculum is hard no matter where you go. plus, trying to take the "easy way out" definitely isn't the best way to go, especially if you want to become a doctor.
a lot of other pre-med students are in physiology or general biology. but i don't think any specific major would hurt your chances of getting into medical school (as long as you take the required science/math courses) - so my advice is to just major in whatever interests you most!

Most of my friends who are in med school or have applied to med school came from Microbiology and Immunology, Physiology, Anatomy and Cell biology, Biochemistry... basically you can look at mcgill's faculty of medicine and check the departments there. Most of the med ppl i know came from those departments.
