Hey everyone! I've applied to mostly UCs and now i want to apply to small schools. Is it too late to apply to pomona? Their interview deadline is Jan. 3. Do you guys think i can make it without looking too bad (as in uniterested)?

It is certainly not too late to apply to Pomona - after all, the Early Decision 2 deadline is December 28 and the Regular Decision deadline is January 2. Why don't you call the Admissions Office to see if you can get an interview? Making the effort will show them that you aren't too "uninterested."

I'm also in a similar situation as the OP.

As far as I understand, the deadline is receipt, not postmark. If I ask my counselor (who has to write recs for ~200 other students) to do the secondary school report and supplement so it gets there on time, she might turn me down.

Does Pomona stress a lot about deadlines? Not that I plan to disregard them if I decide it's not too late to apply, but just in case circumstances arise - like my counselor refusing to do it over winter break...

Anyone? About the strictness of deadlines?

you can still apply to pomona, but no way to get a spot for the interview. i called two weeks ago and they said interviews are all full.

yea...i'm on the waiting list with 45 ppl and that was last week

"As far as I understand, the deadline is receipt, not postmark. "

Actually, I'm pretty sure that it is postmark.

Nope, for Pomona the deadlines are receipt deadlines. See http://pomona.edu/ADWR/Admissions/Forms/PomonaAppInstructions.pdf.

I applied to Pomona last year, and I mailed my School Report and Teacher Evaluations, etc., on December 30, thinking that the deadline was postmark like for all the other colleges I was applying to. I think my stuff got there on January 4, and it was fine. I still got in and I'm a freshman there right now. The thing is they get inundated with so much mail during the last week of December and the first week of January that they will be putting all staff to frantically opening mail. So in my experience they are not too strict about the January 2 receipt deadline, but you need to also make sure that your stuff gets there within a few days of the deadline. I'd at least make sure that it's postmarked by January 2, since I agree that the application instructions don't make it clear enough that the deadlines are receipt, so the admissions people are probably understanding enough about the postmark/receipt confusion. So my advice is to urge your counselor to get the School Report done as soon as possible, and have it mailed off by January 2. Good luck!

If necessary, use FedEx!
