Hey everyone! Congrats to all who got in! Unfortunately I didn't....

I really couldn't believe it, i have a 3.7 gpa, top 10%, and about a 1940 total on the SAT and lot's of activities. My teachers and councilor simply could not believe I didn't get in as I'm one the top students in my grade. I applied for management and faculty of arts and sciences. I also thought it would be easy to get into the 'arts and sciences', and now i'm hearing the 'faculty of arts' program is the easy one, and unfortunately i didn't apply to it. I got rejected to 'arts and sciences' (and management, but i expected that) and i can't help but think i could have/ should have gotten in to mcgill had i applied to 'faculty of arts.' I'm also a canadian and mcgill was my ultimate top choice dream school... it really sucks that most people i know that got in are american and have no plans to go there.

Is there any chance i have of appealing for admission or something? What if i call them and request a different program (I just wanted to go as undecided or political science major if they have it, and i think i accidentally applied to the wrong program) that i have a better chance of getting into? Please help me out!!! Any comments appreciated.

I would definitely appeal the decision. Your grades and SAT results appear strong. What about the ACT or SAT IIs. I got accepted in Management and my scores were not too much higher. Don't give up, apply for an appeal and present a compelling reason why they should reconsider. As a Canadian they should give you another chance but I would work on presenting a strong argument and most importantly why you really want to attend Mcgill.
Good Luck.

icarus - I'm sorry that you were denied admission...it seems like your stats are fine, so I wonder why...but I agree with stellitsa, you should appeal the decision.

If you're from Quebec, you have until 1 March to apply again for the fall term; however, if you're not (and I suspect you're not), then you should definitely appeal.

Sorry for the late replies to questions!
Stellista, I never took the ACT because it isnt offered where I live, but I did take the SAT II in French with listening (got a 640) and Literature (660). I really think my grades were not bad for an IB certificate student with five certificate courses. I have friends with relatively similar grades (like a 3.8) who got accepted, and I cant find a reason other than sheer bad luck to explain why I got rejected.
Miqui, thank you so much for the link, it says I only have six weeks to appeal, and I wouldve missed that deadline if I didnt have the link. And is it true that I can apply to more faculties, even now in February?! That would be awesome, Ill definitely apply to easier faculties, but then again whats easier than undecided in social sciences
Anyway, thanks everyone for the advice.

icarus - My DS was also refused, with 2100 SATs, 700s on SAT II (including French), and a GPA in all honors courses weighted at 3.8. His HS counselor told me that McGill does not weight the coursework - so a B in AP classes seems a negative. We were perplexed as well.

anothermom3, wow, he seems to have amazing scores, my friend got into an ivy league school (UPENN) with a similar academic standing (her grades were no higher, no joke!) so it's very strange that he didn't get into Mcgill. Will he be appealing too then? I'm thinking i will most likely appeal, but i have gotten into other good schools in canada like Queen's and U of T so now i'm wondering if i should just choose one of those.
