HELP!!! Is this is a good plan for the summer???

Well, I have been studying for the SAT since I was in 8th grade, and I have a natural propensity at mathematics, but my writing and critical reading suffers. I am going to be a senior next year, and I am going to take the SAT twice; once in oct and then in early nov. My goal is 2150+, I really want a 2200 however. Here is what I am going to do every week for the summer because I really REALLY want a good grade on this.

Mon, Wed: Take three CR tests from BB, and grade+correct my mistakes, see why I got things right. Est: 2.5 hours/day
Tues, Thurs: Same as above, except with Math, 2.5 hours/day
Friday,Sunday: Writing, 2.5 hours

SAT: Take a full practice test, and grade it and correct mistakes and see why I got things correct as well. Est time: As long as my will can take me. lol

This way, I complete 2 exams/week. I will finish the BB Edition 2 in 4 weeks.
I will complete Grubers+ Rocket review in 4 weeks
I will complete Direct Hits + X + Y in the other 4 weeks.

Which books should be x and y?? Which are the best? Also, I currently score:

700-750 in mathematics
600 in CR
600-650 in W
10 essay

Have you looked at the 10 Real SATs book?

Okay,

X= 10 real SAT’s! I will check that out.

Writing you should be able to easily improve.

<a href=“Best Colleges - Rankings, Statistics & Data - CollegeStats.org”>Best Colleges - Rankings, Statistics & Data - CollegeStats.org;

Study that a little bit and you should have one whole part of the writing section down eaaaaaaasy

hey
i was wondering
if you started studying in 8th grade
why did you wait until senior year to take the test?
p.s. maybe get grammatix for x

it’s utterly daft to take the SAT in 2 consecutive months. you won’t have enough time to figure out how to improve, if you want to/are able to.

Also, if you’ve been studying for this for 4 years (another rather daft move), perhaps your score ranges are as high as they are going to get. Just because you put in the extra work doesn’t mean you deserve to get into the top decile of scores.

I haven’t been studying since I was in 8th grade. 8th grade was the first time I took it for CTY. But I have studied for the ACT and I got a 32.

I will be a senior as well next year, and gosh – your plan sounds so OCD.
Maybe it’s just because I despise the thought of studying SAT books when we should be out actually READING.
Things to be addressed:

 1. I’m sure you’ve already checked out the “Xiggi” method, which seems reasonable. There he lists a lot of things wrong with “review” books such as Gruber; use these with discretion.

To improve critical reading, the best way IMO is simply to read. The problem most kids have with the SAT CR is the difficulty in adjusting to the style of material: long, “scholarly”, not as light a read as say, Gossip Girl :stuck_out_tongue: and usually on topics they are unfamiliar with.
Plus, reading books/articles of literary merit might give you essay material as well :] along with a sense for grammar for W.

^ that’s what you should work into your summer. Review books are resorts for those during the school year. But now with a bit more time, you can actually improve upon your intelligence beyond the SAT.

& check out the Xiggi method! It’s the most popular topic in this forum.

P.S. Isn’t a 32 a good score?

A 32 is okay. A 34 is better. ( my goal fyi)

I am doing everything i can to start reviewing though. Nothing except my own will is going to stop me.

haha you are only person on this site that I hope does not reach their goals.

First of all, it’s “propensity FOR” not “propensity AT”…

Second of all, if you have any friends, you won’t be able to stick to such a rigid schedule.

Just devote X amount of hours every week to studying for the SAT… you don’t need to have it worked out to an exact amount of time every set day.

You can study a little more on some days and a little less on others, just as long as you really make an effort to stick to the amount of hours you originally said you wanted to study a week.

haha there is so much animosity no?

Good for you. Stick with the plan. Doing this in the morning and then chilling with friends in the hot summer afternoon sounds like a good plan.
Just dont take candy from strangers.
