I'm planning on studying to become on pediatrician and so i was planning on applying to Johns Hopkins as an undergrad. i thought this would increase my chances of being accepted to medical school..
However, my guidance counselor told me that it really doesn't matter where i go as an undergraduate. its only the GPA and MCAT scores that count in the end...and she was saying that because JHU is so competitive, going there might lower my GPA, and actually hurt my chances of getting accepted to med. school
but i was thinking, wouldn't Johns Hopkins' renowned pre-med courses help me in preparing for the MCAT as opposed to another school?
So i was just wondering if any of you knew any universities that has a good/decent pre-med program . thanks in advance.

this is a list of colleges. please let me know if any of these would fit:
-Tufts
-Georgetown
-Carnegie Mellon
-NYU
-University of Rochester
-Boston College
-Barnard College
-Wellesley
-Brandeis

[edit]
i'm considering majoring in english while taking the science and math courses required for med school. so if you think of a school that "fits" please let me know! :)

Yes, your choice of schools is good for premed. Remember that you don't necessarily have to do "premed" to do medschool. You can do biology, chemistry, etc. Out of your choices, Rochester and Carnegie Mellon would be better than the others in my opinion, as they are strong in all science departments.

^ thanks for the quick response haha. but i was wondering how are their english/humanities departments? as you can see from my edit, i'm intending to take an english major in order to become a more well-rounded applicant for med school.

In a word, no.

You have a pretty good list. Based on your presumed criteria of small/medium schools in large northeastern cities, I would also suggest Brown, Penn, Trinity (CT), Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and possibly Swarthmore.

For a safety/match you may want to check out Goucher, just outside Baltimore. It has excellent programs in English and the sciences and has a good reputation for pre-med. It offers cross-registration with Hopkins, I think, and there's a shuttle service connecting the two.
