Help Junior Make College List

I’ve bought a college book and started looking at prospective schools, but I’d like your help. I’ve given my stats and a rough sketch of scools I like, plus my guess at my chances at each school.

Stats:
GPA: 97 avg; class rank about 5-7 out of about 475.
PSAT: 204 selection index (71 verbal, 66 math)
SAT: 800 Verbal; 700 Math; 770 Writing (Debating whether to retake in fall or devote more time to doing well on SAT II’s)
SAT II: 800 World History
Taking Math IC and either US History or Spanish next fall (I’d def do better on US hist than spanish but I’m not sure if I sohuld take span since I’ve already taken a history test)
My school offers no AP classes (sucks yeah I know) but every class I’ve ever taken has been honors.

ECs:
Will be Quiz Bowl captain next year
Starter on succesful Boys Varsity Volleyball (all yrs varsity)
Boys Varsity Basketball (1 yr freshman/ 1 yr jv)
Officer in History Club
Math Club
National Honor Society (will most likely at least receive cabinet position next year)
Communications Club
AAU basketball every year
Volunteer Work:
Teach religious ed once a week through school
Tutor both in school and on saturdays

Background: African-American male from Catholic school on Long Island; immigrant parents from Caribbean (although now we are pretty well-off)
Was sick on PSAT, so will only be Commended Scholar, but will probably be National Achievement.

List:
Boston Univ- safety
Brown- match
Duke- match/ reach
Emory- match
George Washington- safety/ match
Georgetown- match/reach
Harvard- reach
John Hopkins- match
Upenn- reach
princeton- reach
tufts- match
vassar- match
wesleyan- match
william and mary -match
yale- reach

Thanks. I’d appreciate if you guys could re-evalute my guesses at safety/ match/ reach or suggest other similar colleges. I’m interested in economics, business, politics, government or history. My dad already told me if I get in he’ll pay for it, so finances aren’t a major concern.

<p>Good stuff, good stuff. Do you log a lot of hours in your ECs? especially sports? First go around with your profile, I would've guessed Princeton to be a match. Your safety/match/reach list is pretty much right on. Best of luck,</p>

<p>TTG</p>

<p>Are you hoping to play volleyball in college?</p>

<p>I am pretty active in my sports, but more so in Quiz Bowl. The past month I've been logging about 10-13 hours a week in that and am very good at it. I'm pretty good at volleyball, but not sure if I'm college team quality, especially since very few schools even have inter-collegiate teams. I am attending a decent volleyball camp this summer in New Jersey. But, yeah those are my three strongest activities in which I total great amounts of time.</p>

<p>I'd say all of your schools are matches.</p>

<p>wake forrest would be a good match</p>

<p>Why do you consider yourself African-American if you are originally from the Caribbean? It's ok to use the term black...</p>

<p>the ivy league is never a "match"</p>

<p>African-American is the same thing as black. I'm sure my family was only in the Caribbean for two or three centuries, so I can still trace my lineage back to Africa, if you want to get technical.</p>

<p>if you want to get technical, is brit/irish/scottish/eastern european the same as white?</p>

<p>Guessing by the ethnicity choices on applications, as long as you're an American citizen and don't fit into one of the convenient groups of black, hispanic/latino, or Asian, I guess you would be considered white/caucasian. But whatever.</p>
