Hi, I'm a high school class of '13 engineering hopeful. I have absolutely no idea what fits in as an appropriate school because I am the first person in my family to go to an American school (originally from Ireland). I go to an ultra-competitive public high school. My gpa is a 3.26 and after one try (i'm doing it again in october) my sat score is a 2050. I want to go to school in New England (or back home in Ireland). I have a killer college essay prepared and i'm experienced at interviews. I've accumulated 600 community service hours in high school, have had a part-time job (20 hours a week) since freshman year, and have done several extracurriculars. My Sat subject scores are a 780 - math II and 720 - chemistry. I've taken 4 AP's and my scores are 3 - Biology, 3 - U.S. History, 4 - Chemistry, 4 - Computer Science. My gpa is low because of the high amount of honors and AP's i've taken and also because of a turbulent home life. I have colleges I like but I don't know what would qualify as a reach, match, safety etc. Is Brown a good reach. Umass Amherst a good safety? All Help Appreciated Thanks In Advance.

I think UMASS would be a good school for you, UMaryland as well. UC schools in California would be a good match. UC irvine, santa barbara, san diego. Cal poly slo would work too. good luck
